Chelsea produced a dogged display of football last night to condemn Manchester City to their first defeat of the Premier League season with a 2-0 scoreline.
With Pep Guardiola’s men dominating possession, Chelsea midfielders had the difficult task of not giving the opposition enough space to run riot in the middle of the park while also trying to build up quick attacks of their own when the opportunity arrived.
Despite City’s dominance, Maurizio Sarri’s midfield trio of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic managed to play their parts quite well.
The Croatian, specially, had one of his better nights in England since his loan move from Real Madrid at the start of the season.
While his injury in the second-half was unfortunate, one particular display of skill by the 24-year-old at the end of the first 45 minutes must have delighted Stamford Bridge fans.
