Lionel Messi raises eyebrows with his lack of defending in stoppage time against Dynamo Kiev

Lionel Messi is being slammed for his inactivity during the dying minutes of Barcelona’s 2-1 win against Dynamo Kiev last night

Barcelona registered their 3rd win on the trot in the Champions League as goals from Messi and Pique eventually canceled out Viktor Tsyhankov’s second half strike for Dynamo, who were missing 13 first team players due to a variety of reasons.

A hard-fought victory for the Blaugrana who could thank Marc-Ander Ter Stegen for his heroic goalkeeping on the night as the returning goalkeeper made a string of saves to keep Ronald Koeman’s side in the game.

The German was making his first appearance since the infamous 8-2 loss against Bayern and was needed to be at his best as the Ukrainian outfit put on a spirited display despite missing 5 of their regular defenders and their first choice goalkeeper.

Messi strolling as Dynamo Kiev player passes him by in the 93rd minute

Despite marking his 150th European appearance for Barcelona with a goal, some fans were not happy with what they saw in the stoppage time at Camp Nou last night.

La Pulga’s lack of concern in the 93rd minute did not sit down well with some sections of Barcelona fans as he did nothing and watched a Dynamo player run by him.

The criticism being dished out seem slightly harsh considering the game was done & dusted at this point and the fact that Messi is quite old now & cannot be expected to press for the full 90 minutes.

Long time watchers admit that the lack of pressing is not new and something Messi has been spotted doing for a long period of time now, even when he scored 91 goals in a year back in 2012.

Though, one feels that that the greatest player in the history of the game could have led by example here as Barcelona are a far cry from the the side that ruled the world under Pep Guardiola and need to work much harder than what was on display from Messi in the injury time against Dynamo last night.
