It was a clash between Premier League clubs when Arsenal faced Newcastle United in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.
The Gunners, who fielded a predominantly young starting lineup, were forced to make a change very early as Gabriel Martinelli hurt his ankle badly in the team warmup before the clash.
Martinelli was fresh off coming back from a long injury lay off, after he had hurt his knee last season in an injury which kept him off the pitch for several months (Transfermrkt).
It was a freak accident as the Brazilian youngster rolled his ankle in a pre-match possession drill, when his studs got caught in the Emirates turf.
The Brazilian forward saw his knee jolt and his body weight go over on his right ankle and was quickly left in a heap on the floor, which prompted his teammates to ask for medical attention.

Arsenal later confirmed that the 19-year-old had ‘turned his ankle’, though they were unable to provide any further detail to the story.
More footage of Arsenal warming up showed that Martinelli was in tears as he struggled to accept another injury, and had to be consoled while making his way down the tunnel.

The forward got injured last season right when he was finding a footing in English football, while his comeback might be marred by this unfortunate accident in a warm up drill.
A shattered Martinelli was swiftly replaced by Reiss Nelson in the starting line up, as Mikel Arteta’s side went on to win the game late in additional extra time: thanks to late goals from Emile Smith-Rowe and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
