Frank Lampard’s time as Chelsea manager is over. The Stamford Bridge icon was sacked on Monday amidst a run of five defeats in eight Premier League matches, leaving the Blues in ninth place and 11 points off the top.
A club statement described “a very difficult decision”, but club owner Roman Abramovich is now set to turn to Thomas Tuchel, who was fired by Paris Saint-Germain last month, to revive Chelsea’s miserable season.
Lampard arrived just 18 months ago, with the club under a transfer ban and he was lauded for his faith in youth during a debut campaign that yielded a top-four finish and a FA Cup final appearance.
Despite taking the Blues to the last-16 of the Champions League and the fifth round of the FA Cup this season, Lampard has averaged an underwhelming 1.67 points per league game during his 18-month stint at the helm.
Spurs fan trolls Lampard
Following the Chelsea legend’s sacking, a Tottenham Hotspur fan went viral as he drove his cab to Stamford Bridge with a placard that read “Taxi for Lampard”.
The cabbie could be heard talking to one of the guard outside the parking lot that the cab is for Lampard. When the guard responded by saying “Lampard is gone”, he pretended to be shocked.”
Sarcastically, the Spurs fan informed the guards that he received a phone call from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to take Lampard out of Stamford Bridge. Elite banter from the Spurs fan!
Genius by this cabbie and #THFC fan, arriving at Stamford Bridge earlier today 😂
