‘Welcome back legend’ – Twitter reacts to shocking Xabi Alonso development

Xabi Alonso is coming back to a television screen near you as the former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich player has reportedly been chosen as the one to fill the vacant managerial role at Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Bundesliga outfit had been looking at replacements ever since Marco Rose announced his departure to take over the reins at Borussia Dortmund five weeks ago.

In a fascinating turn of events, according to ESPN commentator Derek Rae, it is understood that the appointment of the Spaniard at Gladbach has come quite out of the blue as the Liverpool great wasn’t even in the running for the job in the eyes of the media, the leading candidates were Jesse Marsch, Gerardo Seoane and current Ajax boss Erik ten Haag.

This is abrupt but quite pleasant at the same time, especially for Liverpool fans, who would now be seeing two of their recent legends in Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso foray into the world of senior management.
