Luis Suarez has waded into the ever-increasing debate as to who is the superior footballer between Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, and the Uruguayan’s response might surprise a few.
The Atletico Madrid striker sat down for a candid interview with Spanish outlet Marca after touching down on a major milestone in his career over the weekend.
Luis Suarez joined the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to become only the 5th active footballer to score 500 goals in his career.
The former Barcelona frontman made the breakthrough as he scored the only goal in Atletico’s weekend win against Alaves.
Haaland v Mbappe
The former Liverpool marksman has revealed his preference when it comes to choosing the best number nine between Borussia Dortmund virtuoso Erling Braut Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain phenom Kylian Mbappe.
Both the Norwegian and the Frenchman have seen their stocks rise rapidly and currently feature in the hottest debate in the world of football.
But according to Suarez, the Nordic beast edges the argument at the moment due to his physicality and aura – “He (Haaland) is a great player, he is at a spectacular level. He has an admirable physical power. He is one of the best 9 in the world that will mark an era.”
When asked to choose one between the young forward duo, Suarez said: “A little more for Haaland, but Mbappé is at a very high level.”
