Can Patrick Bamford Finally Realise his Potential at Leeds?

Patrick Bamford joined Leeds United from Middlesbrough this summer in a move worth around £7 million plus add-ons. The signing met the approval of the Whites’ fan base, as the club had been desperate to acquire an out-and-out centre-forward since the departure of Chris Wood at the start of the 2017-18 campaign. Now at one of the biggest sleeping giants in the game, Bamford could finally have the opportunity to take his game to a higher level.

Bamford spent his youth career at the Nottingham Forest Academy but only made two senior appearances for the club before being signed by Chelsea in 2012. The Blues constantly seek to acquire fresh young talent and then loan the players out so they can gain vital first-team experience. Between 2012 and 2015, Bamford spent time with MK Dons, Derby County and Middlesbrough, impressing greatly by scoring 43 goals in a total of 96 league appearances combined. The 24-year-old has proved to be an extremely capable goal-getter at Championship level but has yet to make the step up and bring that form to the Premier League. This is perhaps why Chelsea decided not to keep him on as one for the future.

After signing for Leeds, Bamford will be hoping he can become a crucial player in a promotion campaign for the Yorkshire club. He will be aware that players like Harry Kane are of a similar age and know that now is the time for him to step up if he is ever to become an elite player.

The lure of working under the guidance of world-renowned tactician Marcelo Bielsa will have been a huge factor in Bamford’s decision to join Leeds. The Argentine manager has been credited with influencing Mauricio Pochettino and Pep Guardiola has described El Loco as the best coach in the world. Just as Pochettino has been able to coach and coax the best out of Kane to turn him into a world class striker, perhaps Bielsa will do the same with Bamford. Let’s not forget that only a few years ago the England captain was also plying his trade in the lower echelons of the English game before the Tottenham Hotspur manager realised he had a diamond that needed polishing.

The odds on Bamford finishing the season as the top scorer in the Championship are quite tempting, especially to punters who want to make use of a free bet, such as the welcome offer signalled by Oddschecker which gifts new Skybet players with £20 to stake. At odds of 25/1 to bang in the most goals, Bamford could be a shrewd outside bet. As soon as the youngster starts scoring more goals in the division, those odds will shorten drastically.

Bamford has shown signs that one day he could become a brilliant player and compete at the highest level. But at 24 years old, it’s make or break time for the Grantham-born striker. Maybe under the guidance of esteemed manager, Bielsa, Bamford can finally realise his potential and fire his new club back into the top flight.

What did Ian Wright say about Mesut Ozil (Video)

Arsenal legend Ian Wright ripped apart Gunners star Mesut Ozil for his Facebook post where the German spoke against former Arsenal stars.

Wrighty said, “Rather than accepting the German’s point of view, Wright went on the offensive:

Sign a contract, if you feel that strongly about people criticising the team because you’re somebody who is integral to Arsenal’s success.

You’re not signing a deal and you’re probably going to continue to hide behind the fact that [Alexis] Sanchez is the one that everybody’s going to say, ‘Is he going to go?’.

Why haven’t you signed yet? That’s what I would say to you. If you feel that strongly, why haven’t you signed yet?”
