Ferran Torres is only 26 years old, yet to hit his peak, and possibly his best years lie ahead of him. However, he has already cemented his legacy in the football history books by scoring a goal whose echo was heard around the world.
On a fateful Sunday night at the MetLife Stadium, the Barcelona forward timed a volley perfectly under unimaginable pressure and bedlam ensued. Torres had just won Spain the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Argentina in extra time, adding a second star to La Roja 16 years after their maiden triumph.
After the match, fans got curious about his parentage as a photo appeared of Ferran with his family.
The photo featured an older black individual along with Ferran’s mother and sister.
This led to many fans thinking if Ferran comes from mixed race parentage.
But that’s not the truth at all. The black individual in the photo is Ferran’s step father, who also accompanied the family after Barcelona’s La Liga win in 22/23 season.
Who is Ferran Torres’ real father?
Ferran’s real father is Fernando Torres, different from the Spanish striker of yore. He was a municipal electrician with little interest in the sport. Locals knew him by the nickname ‘Cucala’, which roughly translates to a raven in the Valencian dialect.
Ferran’s football upbringing would largely happen thanks to his Gaelician grandfather. Meanwhile, his mother María García had faith in him from the outset, buying him his first pair of boots and enrolling him into academies.

But not everything was smooth sailing for Ferran. His parents separated and filed for divorce while Ferran was still searching for a breakthrough into professional football. The youngster as a result suffered from bouts of depression, and would need therapy later to reconcile himself with the major life event.
Nevertheless, during these formative years, Ferran developed a deep bond with sister Arantxa Torres, one that continues to persist. In fact, she is the only family member Ferran has spoken extensively about in the past, the duo even bearing identical tattoos.
Ferran’s ascent eventually saw him graduate to the Valencia academy before catching the eye of Pep Guardiola. The forward thus headed to Manchester City earlier this decade, marking a significant milestone in his career, before ultimately finding a home in Barcelona.
In the meantime, Ferran kept his family private, and barely ever spoke about his mom or dad. The latter seemed to have disappeared from his life, albeit Ferran’s mother did make the occasional trip to watch him play and celebrate trophies with him.
She was also present at the recent World Cup final, and had company with her. Kitted out in Spain shirts were Arantxa, Maria, and her partner. Ferran’s step father is believed to be from Senegal but little details exist in the public space about his identity.
With Ferran elevating to new levels of celebrity following his World Cup heroics, the spotlight is bound to fall harder on his personal life too.
