After a mixed start to their campaign, Liverpool have turned the tables with five successive wins, which include a fourth-round Carabao Cup triumph over Chelsea on Wednesday. A recent run of form has definitely strengthened Liverpool’s position on the field, but has also attracted increased attention from rival clubs, with several standout performers now emerging as transfer targets.
The Merseyside club have faced growing attention from Europe’s elite in recent weeks, with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City monitoring the established star and Bayern Munich tracking emerging talent at Anfield. As a result, Andoni Iraola’s side has decided to secure the future of two players, at opposite ends of their careers, with new contracts.
According to Sam Dean of the Daily Telegraph, Liverpool are in talks about a new deal with Rio Ngumoha’s representatives amidst the youngster’s rapid rise at Anfield. The 18-year-old English prodigy has become an integral part of the Liverpool squad with regular first-team opportunities under Andoni Iraola this season.
Ngumoha has already earned three caps with the senior England squad and is touted as one of the hottest prospects in the transfer market. However, Sam Dean has revealed that Liverpool have previously rejected an offer of around £60m from Bayern Munich and made it clear that the former Chelsea academy youngster is not for sale.
Rio Ngumoha is currently under contract with Liverpool until 2028 summer, so a new deal would not only secure his future at the club, but also highlight the club’s stance over their young assets.
Meanwhile, the Reds have also come to a decision to open contract extension talks with in-form Alexis Mac Allister. According to the Arabian news outlet winwin, Liverpool are preparing a formal offer to extend the Argentine’s stay beyond the summer of 2028.
Earlier in the season, Mac Allister revealed that Liverpool were in no position to offer him a new contract, with the club prioritisinglong term-term deals with fellow midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch. However, the 27-year-old’s impressive form this season, coupled with a growing interest from European heavyweights, has prompted the club to change their stance.
Mac Allister has been monitored by Spanish giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, and is also under the radar of Manchester City scouts. The 2022 World Cup-winning midfielder will turn 28 in December, and has already revealed his desire to extend his stay with Liverpool.
New contracts to Rio Ngumoha and Alexis Mac Allister will highlight Liverpool’s efforts to fend off interest from rival clubs.
