In Fantasy Premier League 2024-25, goalkeepers may seem to have lost their importance. At least, their impact looks way reduced than before. However, they can be a decent route to rake in points.
Now, how does a goalkeeper score points in FPL? Clean sheets are the easiest but the most difficult route these days. Then you have save points and there are keepers who add a lot to their tally through this pathway.
And a keeper can score from assists too. Like, Matz Sels have done once in this ongoing campaign.
By the way, goalkeepers have also scored goals in the history of FPL. Ask Tim Howard. However, he hardly has any lineage now.
Therefore, as we approach another weekend and another dose of exciting fantasy football, let’s check out the best goalkeeping options for gameweek 23.
Jordan Pickford(£5.0m)
The England international has kept his place in my fantasy team since the beginning of the season. He now stands only second to Matz Sels, who is enjoying a breakout season. However, Sels(£5.0m) doesn’t have any easy fixtures until gameweek 29.
With 90pts from 22 matches, Pickford appears a formidable asset. The Everton shot-stopper has registered 66 saves with an average of 3.14 saves per 90’. Hence, he offers you another route to extra points.
Pickford is great in saving penalties and given his FPL managers high rewards for their trust — seven clean sheets with two double-digit scores till GW22 alongside penalty saves(2). The veteran keeper has also scalped 10 bonus points.
His fixtures look decent and he is a long-term hold till GW29. Just to remind you, Pickford has a double gameweek in GW24.
David Raya(£5.6m)
Though the Spaniard has only one clean sheet in the last six, he is a nice pick before GW23. The other night at UCL, Raya kept a CS against Lille, underlining the strength of Arsenal’s defensive organisation along with his shot-stopping ability of the highest order.
He is a bit pricey but has a mouth-watering schedule going into gameweek 23. The Gunners will take on Wolves, Leicester, and West Ham in the next four. Arteta’s last man of defence has seven clean sheets and clocked 52 saves in 22 games, at an average of 2.36 per 90’ along with six bonus points.
Raya, who is third among GKs in terms of FPL points with a tally of 81, remains the most popular GK choice as the Spain international finds his name in more than 28% of the teams.
Dean Henderson(£4.5m)
The former Manchester United academy graduate is now having a great time with Glasner’s Palace. He has registered two consecutive clean sheets in the last two gameweeks.
The Crystal Palace defence looks pretty organised and Oliver’s boys have a nice run of fixtures till GW30. Henderson has made 61 saves, averaging 2.77 per 90’ alongside saving a penalty, and raking in four bonus points.
Therefore, the Palace no.1 who is probably the numero uno among the best budget goalkeepers at the moment, appears a viable option for the long-term.
