Liverpool have endured a mixed start to their 2026-27 campaign, sitting fourth in the Premier League with four wins in their opening ten matches. Despite spending heavily last summer, the English giants are expected to be active in the winter transfer window.
Before the transfer window opens in January, Liverpool have added a new member to their recruitment team. According to ESPN Brazil, the Reds have reached an agreement to sign Flamengo’s head of scouting, Andrii Fedchenkov.
The Ukrainian will join Liverpool’s scouting and analysis team in January, after fulfilling his contract in Rio de Janeiro. Fedchenkov is known for his expertise in South American, European and Japanese markets.

Fedchenkov joined the Rubro-Negro in February last year and has a good working relationship with their sporting director Jose Boto. Before his two-year stint with Flamengo, the 30-year-old worked as a scout with Cardiff City, PAOK and Shakhtar.
Meanwhile, Fedchenkov’s arrival at Anfield significantly improves the club’s reach in the scouting network. His knowledge in the South American region could help Liverpool scout young talent from Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Liverpool have not exploited the region in recent years, missing out on promising youngsters like Franco Mastantuono, Claudio Echeverri, Estevao and Rayan to rival clubs.
Liverpool’s recent failure in signing Aurelien Tchouameni, Jude Bellingham, Moises Caicedo and Martin Zubimendi further highlights the need for an upgrade in their scouting team.
Considering the rise in transfer fees for European youngsters and proven Premier League stars, the club could do well with Fedchenkov’s expertise in identifying undervalued players. His previous spells with PAOK and Cardiff could also help Liverpool strengthen their already-established network in Europe.
In recent years, Liverpool have gone from developing young talents to signing big-money targets. However, the recruitment team has faced criticism for failing to address the first-team squad needs, most notably the lack of a specialist defensive midfielder. The club has also spent significant time identifying the long-term cover for their back four without any success.
Fedchenkov’s experience in tracking talent across continents could widen Liverpool’s options in the near future. As Julian Ward continues to reshape Liverpool’s backroom staff, Fedchenkov’s addition to the scouting department gives Liverpool an edge in the demanding and competitive transfer market.
