Ekitike Stuns, Salah Shines, Wirtz Flops – FPL Twitter Explodes With Memes After Liverpool Victory

Fantasy Premier League, Liverpool

The Premier League finally returned and we were spoilt with a brilliant 4-2 win for Liverpool at Anfield. This has set the tone for an exciting season. Hugo Ekitike opened the scoring, beating his defender with a bounce and slotting it past the keeper. He would then assist Cody Gakpo who would weave through the defence and score. Hugo would also become the first Frenchman to score and assist on his debut.

For FPL managers he was overlooked because of his playing time. It is heavily rumoured that Isak wants a move to Merseyside. The Swede will not be in the squad for the Villa fixture which was confirmed by Eddie Howe. For owners who went for Van Dijk, he scored 3 points, 2 of which came from the new Defensive Contributions rule. The Liverpool defence looked shaky especially on the counter as Semenyo demonstrated by hitting Liverpool on the counter twice.

Chiesa would then score a beautiful volley for his first ever Premier League goal giving the reigning champions the lead in the 87th minute. For managers who had Florian Wirtz it was not a great showing the German wunderkind was unable to have any impact and was left with a 2 pointer.

It was even worse for the managers who went for the Liverpool fullback duo, they were subbed off at the 59th minute which meant they only earned one point where as has they been subbed off 1 minute later it would have been an extra 5 points (4 for the clean sheet 1 for reaching 60 minutes) just FPL things, Kerkez was on 0 due to a yellow card he received. However it was after these substitutions that Liverpool would concede giving hope for those that went for the duo.

Semenyo was the star racking up 15 points. Lot of people wrote off Bournemouth assets due to the mass sale of key players. Although he looks like one to transfer, we will have to wait and see how Bournemouth fair in the coming weeks.

The FPL King delivered as usual Mo Salah would award those who captained him but not without some ‘Damn I should have taken Haaland instead.’ He would score in the dying stages after taking on his defender and smashing one to his far post with his weaker foot. In doing so he would become the first ever player in Premier League history to achieve double digit returns in opening day fixtures.
