A new name has emerged at the £7.0m-8.0m price point in FPL. Anthony Gordon was a great FPL asset last season and was a season keeper for most of us in our teams. However he started off the season really poorly but this was due to him having to play at striker in the absence of Alexander Isak. Now with the signing off Woltemade, he can shift to his position at LW, he displayed his new found confidence with a brace against Union St. Gilloise. Is he an option for us to consider in out teams? Lets us break it down.

Gordon has firmly established himself as a starter on the left wing, playing significant minutes. Crucially, his role is heavily focused on attacking contributions. He is frequently among the team’s leaders for touches in the opposition box, shots, and Expected Goal Involvements (xGI), indicating a consistent threat and he is nailed for minutes as well.
Gordon is now on penalty duties after the departure of Isak and scored twice from the spot midweek. So even if he has a bad gameweek, one penalty can convert a 2-3 pointer into 10. Offering a safe and reliable route to points. Gordon is currently priced at £7.4m, having dropped from his starting price of £7.5m. This represents great value for a player who is Newcastle’s primary penalty taker. For context, his 124 points from last season came without consistent penalty duties, suggesting there’s upside if he maintains this new responsibility.

The price drop actually makes him more attractive as a differential pick. At under £7.5m, he slots nicely into midfield structures without breaking the bank, allowing you to invest elsewhere in premium assets. He is also a great differential with only 1.6% ownership which is most likely from dead accounts as well making his ownership even less among active players.
The strongest argument for acquiring Anthony Gordon is the favourable run of fixtures that Newcastle United is entering. FPL managers often use the Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR) to identify teams with a high probability of attacking returns, and the Magpies are currently flashing green on the fixture ticker.

Anthony Gordon represents an interesting FPL proposition rather than a must-have asset. If you’re looking for a differential and believe Newcastle will improve as a team, Gordon with penalty duties makes sense. His price point is reasonable, and the upside is genuine if he rediscovers form and maintains his spot kick responsibilities.
However, he’s not a set and forget option due to his dry run of form and consistent injuries. His recent track record demands caution, and you’ll need to monitor whether he retains penalties beyond these recent fixtures. For risk averse managers or those prioritizing consistency, there are safer investments.
