Former Newcastle Striker Papiss Cisse Goes Full Sunday League Before Rolling Back the Years

Sunday League

Papiss Cisse, the former Newcastle United player, the defier of Physics, and a once goalscoring machine, just had the worst 60 seconds of his career, and Football Twitter is losing it.

Once one of the most talked about members of the “Streets Won’t Forget” club, the Senegalese striker has been away from the spotlight since he left Newcastle in 2016. Since then, he has played in China, Turkey, France, and now he’s back playing his trade in England’s Sunday League.

He currently plays for the over-35 side of Wythenshawe FC known as Wythenshawe Vets, who play in the Cheshire Veterans Football League. In this week’s clash, Wythenshawe Vets played South Liverpool, and Cisse had a nightmare in the first half.

His side was awarded a penalty, which Cisse ended up missing after the keeper saved his weak attempt before getting up and pushing his follow-up onto the post and out for a corner.

From the ensuing corner that Cisse himself took, he ended up hitting the ball straight out of play.

Many users on X were calling it one of the worst corners they had ever seen and couldn’t believe what they were seeing. However, most fans took the embarrassing moment in a sporting way and were joking about the performance.

Former Premier League goal of the season winner, we all have off days.

The guy who scored my favourite prem goal of all time moving like this now? He can’t be arsed

Thankfully, Cisse made up for those moments of embarrassment and helped his side win. Cisse scored SIX goals in the second half, helping Wythenshawe win 13-0 over their opponents.

Speaking about his performance, one user on X said:

“Papiss cisse what is this performance?”

Another fan added the classic saying:

“Streets will never forget Papiss Cisse.”

Here is the best of the bunch as he wins the ball back from the opposition, dribbles past the defense, and rolls back the years with a scrumptious finish past the keeper.

This wasn’t the first time Cisse had scored 6 goals for his side. Cisse once scored all 6 goals for his side’s 6-2 win over Collegiate Old.

Cisse isn’t the only ex-Prem star in the team. Wythenshawe features nine former Premier League players. Cisse is joined by the likes of Joleon Lescott, Stephan Ireland, George Boyd, Danny Drinkwater, Emile Heskey, Maynor Figueroa, Oumar Niasse, and Nedum Onuoha.

The nine Prem veterans combine 1,801 top-flight appearances, 325 international caps, and 222 Premier League goals.

With Wythenshawe and its fans living the dream, how have the chasing pack reacted to the dominance?

While the abundance of experience has been pivotal in the title race, there haven’t been any complaints from the opposition. Most teams see it as a bit of fun and appreciate that they’re getting more eyes on the league, and the overall quality is improving.
