The Shocking Reason Why Freddy Quit X, Formerly Twitter

2026 FIFA World Cup, Matchgoing Fans

The viral German fan touring America at the ongoing World Cup, Freddy, deactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account on June 30, 2026, citing the platform’s toxicity and intense online backlash from the comment sections.

After arriving in the United States to support Germany in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he quickly grabbed a following of over 600,000 users on X by posting his pure, unfiltered wonder at everyday American culture.

His content went massively viral because for treated ordinary American mainstays like sacred landmarks. One of his many viral tweets was famously referred to Taco Bell as ‘the holy land’. He also filmed a late-night run to Waffle House and expressed sheer amazement at the massive scale of Buc-ee’s, Walmart, and a Bass Pro Shop shooting range.

His most popular tweet featured a photo taken in Atlanta, citing the city’s environment as “It feels like you’re in a forest the whole time”, which had 5.9 million views. As a result of his wholesome appreciation for the country, the American public quickly turned him into a folk hero. NFL legend JJ Watt booked him a luxury hotel suite, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay interacted with him, and country star Ella Langley invited him to meet her at a concert. He even FaceTimed with astronauts.

This sudden growth led some toxic-minded internet users to claim that his tweets were purely guerrilla marketing. They began to notice that his posts began featuring rapid, luxury hotel stays and corporate brand engagements. This sparked intense debate across the internet over whether Freddy was a genuine tourist to enjoy the World Cup or just a marketing plant driving engagement for brands.

And they also discovered that Freddy had visited the USA before, fueling theories that his viral reactions to these locations were completely faked for clout.

The definitive turning point occurred when Germany was eliminated from the World Cup in the match of Round 32 by Paraguay in a penalty shootout.

Within 24 hours after that match, his reputation faced a much harsher blow, when critics unearthed his older posts, he reportedly referred to African Americans as ‘racist’. This sparked massive controversy, ultimately driving him off the platform.

Some users also found his past tweets in which he had the exact style of reaction to the places and culture in Saudi Arabia by using almost identical, highly stylized language to his American posts, fueling theories that his ‘naive tourist’ persona was a practiced act.

Because all of this, he eventually deleted his X account. But he posted a defense on Instagram stating that people were taking a handful of old posts “with zero context to make me look like a bad person”.

He added that he had always planned to delete the account after Germany’s exit anyway, but that the toxicity “ruined the fun”.

This took an unexpected political turn right after his account deletion. Nick Adams, serving as a special presidential envoy for tourism, announced on X that he had stepped in to defend Freddy against a toxic mob-like online crowd. Adams revealed that despite the online backlash, he had successfully arranged an official White House visit for the German fan to ensure his tour of America concludes on a high note.

Despite these harsh conditions, Freddy has decided to stay in the U.S to watch remaining World Cup matches. And also stated that he will post his updates on Instagram from now on.
