Mamdani Style or Arne Slot Vibes? Adidas Display 26/27 Liverpool Home Kit In Peculiar Way

Adidas, Arne Slot, Football Kits, Liverpool, Zohran Mamdani

Liverpool’s home kit for the 2026/27 season made by Adidas is an instant classic. Released in May, the jersey takes inspiration from the iconic Candy-sponsored shirt the Reds wore during 1989-1991, experiencing both success and tragedy of unprecedented magnitude during the era.

The kit’s enticing red colour, described as “active maroon” by Adidas, is decorated with geometric patterns. Three thick stripes run along the shoulder blade, a trademark of the German sportswear brand, with white accents on the cuff and collar completing the jersey’s sparkling look.

The release caused much hype amongst fans until it got swept away by World Cup fever. However, with the fiesta in America about to come to a close, a peculiar design choice by Adidas for the jersey has once again caused the shirt to rule the internet.

A fan on X shared a photo of the candy shirt from a store in Nice, France. The jersey was peculiarly draped over the hangers with full-sleeved white shirts underneath, the collars sharply popped out and folded.

“sat in the office just incase you get called up”, a comment read.

“Proper meeting at 12 but footy at 3 vibes”, echoed another.

“Straight from the office to Anfield champ league night”, the banter kept flooding in.

Most certainly unintended, but the style seems to be a perfect representation of the aesthetic recently made popular by New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

An internet sensation, the 34-year-old makes it a point to always appear dapped up in a suit in public. However, Mamdani is also a hardcore sports fan and he found a unique solution to represent both.

In recent times, Mamdani has often appeared in public wearing a jersey over his formals. The Liverpool shirt has never featured though, with that honour reserved for Mamdani’s beloved Arsenal and reigning NBA champions New York Knicks.

Nevertheless, Liverpool could do with some positive vibes after managing to finish only fifth in the Premier League last season. The Reds are braced for a new era, with Arne Slot departing and Andoni Iraola taking over the helm.

Some even suggested the jersey was inspired by a look preferred by Slot after he led the club to the Premier League trophy a couple of years ago.

The fans will get the first chance to see the new-look Liverpool in action against Sunderland later this month, followed by more pre-season friendlies against Wrexham, Leeds United, As Monaco and Como.

Three of those five clubs having red as their primary colour, however, may force Liverpool to use their away jerseys instead. Regardless, the new home shirt is bound to make an appearance some time during the run, hopefully without the shirts underneath them.
