Manchester City are steadily carving out a program for the future in this post-Pep Guardiola era. While the axe of 115 Premier League charges hangs over their head, the club hasn’t shied away from assembling a super team under new head coach Enzo Maresca.
While Guardiola has already left superstars like Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku, and Ruben Dias in the squad, the Club further added World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez to the mix in the summer transfer window. However, City seems to be far from pulling the handbrake in the transfer window at this moment as they eye 3 wonderkids to build for the future.
According to a report from ESPN, City is keeping a close eye on Roma’s 19-year-old right-back Emanuele Lulli. Lulli is an exciting talent and has recently been promoted to the first team, where he has already played in competitions like Serie A and the UEFA Champions League. Lulli has good defensive tenacity and can read the opponent perfectly.
From a strategic perspective, Lulli can be a good addition for the right-back option alongside Matheus Nunes. However, City isn’t the only club that has expressed interest in the player, as clubs like PSG, Arsenal, and Manchester United are also in line.
Additionally, Maresca’s Manchester City has also enquired about the 17-year-old Dortmund winger Mathis Albert, as per Goal.com. Hailing from the USA, Albert is another rising young talent who can play both as a winger and an attacking midfielder. Having risen through the youth ranks of Dortmund, Albert is already one of the youngest players to play in the league.
Even this season, Albert has made an appearance for the club in competitions like the DFB Pokal. Albert would have been a great investment for City, especially considering his long-term ceiling and prospects in that final third position. But sources from Goal.com have remarked that Dortmund has rejected City’s approach for the player and is looking to keep him in Germany.
Meanwhile, the final player in City’s watchlist is 18-year-old Turkish goalkeeper Deniz Donmezer, as per TeamTalk. A right-footed goalkeeper, Donmezer currently plays for Kayserispor after breaking onto the scene with Adana Demirspor. Despite his young age, Donmezer has already made multiple appearances in the senior Turkish club competition, the Super Lig.
Given his talent and rapid growth as a goalkeeper, Donmezer would be a good prospect to have under the wings of Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, Manchester City seems to be losing out on this exciting talent as well because Hull City have already made the first move to land Donmezer in the January Transfer Window, as per TeamTalk.
The deal includes a 1.5M Euros contract with a a four and a half year time period. The City front office will have to go all in at this moment if they want to poach the teenage sensation and land him at Etihad. City’s plans seem to be perfectly constructed for the future. But it will be interesting to see whether the club actually gets these players that they are looking for.
