Hands off Porro: Tottenham demand £75M from Spain’s big two

Pedro Porro, Tottenham Hotspur

Pedro Porro arrived at Tottenham from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon initially on loan in 2023, but then signed with the club permanently in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur paid £44M to sign Porro, as first, they spent £5M on the loan deal, and then spent £39M as his loan contract included an obligation-to-buy clause.

Porro has become a key member of the starting eleven, and was part of the team which lifted the UEFA Europa League a few seasons back to end Spurs’ lengthy trophy drought.

The 27-year-old was also an integral part of the Spain national team, which won the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and he made six appearances, scoring two goals, creating eight chances, and averaging 91 per cent passing accuracy.

Pedro Porro became a wanted man after the World Cup, but he decided to commit to Tottenham and sign a new five-year deal with the club, which could be further extended for a year.

With the winter transfer window fast approaching, clubs have once again started to show interest in Porro, and Spurs’ recent struggles could tempt him to leave.

Tottenham are aware that clubs across Europe are eyeing Porro, and to fend off competition and keep a hold of him, they have set a world-record price tag for him.

According to TeamTalk, Tottenham have slapped a £75M price tag on Porro, and the club will not even consider an offer below that valuation.

The highest transfer fee paid for a right-back was £57M, when Paris Saint-Germain signed Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan in 2021.

Currently, La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are leading the pack for the signature of Porro, and it is unclear whether the Spanish duo will back down after Spurs steep valuation.

Porro has become one of the most important players in Spurs’ starting eleven, and last term, he made 34 Premier League appearances, contributing to three goals and helping the club avoid relegation to the Championship.

His stock kept rising after he established himself as the first-choice right-back in the Spanish national team and won the World Cup, in which he was dominant in attack as well as in defence, scoring and clearing balls to help the team.

Currently, Porro is the first-choice right-back at Tottenham, and behind him is 20-year-old Archie Gray, which shows the club do not have much depth in this position and will not want to sell one of their key players.

The only scenario, Spurs might be willing to let go of Porro, would be that they are relegated from the Premier League, which could be possible as they have finished 17th in the table in back to back campaign, and in the current season, they are yet to register their first win.

Porro is currently nursing a hamstring injury, and after he was sidelined due to injury, De Zerbi provided an update and hoped that it would not be a big problem.

De Zerbi said on Tottenham’s official site: “Listen, Pedro, I said after the World Cup, I said the management of Pedro should be different, because after the World Cup, many games. I don’t know what the problem is. It’s a hamstring, I think. Hopefully, it’s not a big problem.”

Porro is expected to return from injury soon, but it remains to be seen whether he will be eligible to play against Coventry City on 20th October.

It will be a difficult task to get Porro off of Tottenham’s hands, as he is tied down with a long-term contract and he is not only one of the key members of the squad, but also a fan favourite at N17.
