Alex Scott or £84M Plan B? Liverpool Push To Solve Midfield Crisis

Liverpool

Alex Scott made his debut for Guernsey in 2019 when he was only 16. Thanks to a partnership, Bristol City signed him swiftly. He moved to the Cherries in 2023, but his journey started in the Channel Islands. He joined Bristol City in January 2020, which turned out to be in the nick of time. Right after that, the pandemic shut down normal life and football.

Scott has shot for the stars ever since he arrived from Bristol City in 2023. He turned into a star midfielder at Bournemouth and an England player under manager Thomas Tuchel.

Now, Liverpool is looking at him as a transfer prospect for January 2027. The Reds have their biggest problem in the middle of the field, where they need a player to control the game.

Manager Andoni Iraola has worked with Scott before (89 appearances at Bournemouth) which draws Liverpool to him, but signing the player would come at a serious cost as Bournemouth is asking for £100 million.

Sky Sports’ Gianluca DiMarzio says Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Milan, and PSG are all interested, but Bournemouth’s owner Bill Foley made it clear what they want.

“At this point, we’re convinced we’re the right place for Alex to be and to stay, and we’ll keep on addressing the contract issues with Alex as we move through this year,” Foley said. “We’d love to have Alex stay here and sign a new contract and be part of this team for the long haul. We haven’t given up, but sometimes players get stars in their eyes, and they think that Chelsea or Manchester City is the right place to go”.

So, Liverpool’s chance of signing Scott comes down to few things falling in place. First, Bournemouth wants £100 million, maybe £80 million minimum. It will cost an arm and a leg for Liverpool.

Second, the competition is tight, Chelsea already had a £64 million bid turned down.

Finally, the timing is tricky, Bournemouth’s owner wants to keep Scott, open to a January sale only if they’re safe from relegation.

Another possible scenario is, because Scott is so expensive and Chelsea are pushing hard, Liverpool might just go for Monaco’s Lamine Camara instead, while they have also asked about Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha as a backup plan, even though he might cost up to £84m as well.

The winter transfer window opens on January 1 and closes at 11:00 PM GMT on February 1, 2027. Liverpool wants to get the ball rolling by contacting Bournemouth. They must meet Bournemouth’s price without fighting Chelsea in a bidding war, and convince Scott’s agents about a bright future at Anfield.
