Real Madrid Target Calafiori: Arsenal’s Brutal Transfer Response Revealed

Arsenal, Riccardo Calafiori

Riccardo Calafiori has established himself as a core member of Arsenal since his arrival from Bologna in 2024. The Italian defender quickly became famous among the Gunners’ supporters, in addition to earning the much-needed trust of team manager Mikel Arteta. Despite facing setbacks due to injuries during his time at the north London club, Calafiori continues to be an important part of Arsenal’s plans.

Apart from that, the 24-year-old’s determination to return and compete for his place has only strengthened his position at the club. However, despite his growing importance, questions emerge about his future with the Gunners. Recent reports suggest that major European clubs have revived their interest in the Italian left-back, putting his name back in the transfer circles.

Chelsea and Real Madrid revive interest in Calafiori

Real Madrid and Chelsea have reportedly been keeping an eye on Calafiori, with Los Blancos believed to be leading the race for his signature. Real Madrid are looking to strengthen their defensive options, while Chelsea could also make another attempt to sign the Italian after previously being turned down in 2024.

But is Riccardo Calafiori actually planning to leave Arsenal?

There is currently no indication from Calafiori himself that he is pushing for an exit. Arsenal, meanwhile, appear determined to keep hold of the defender. According to OneFootball, the Gunners have placed a price tag of more than €100 million on the Italian. That valuation sends a clear message about how highly Arsenal regard Calafiori. The club spent £42 million to bring him to North London in July 2024, and they now appear unwilling to consider letting him leave unless a significant offer arrives.

Arsenal are determined not to let Calafiori go

Calafiori’s importance to Arsenal has also been evident during his time at the club. His first season was interrupted by injuries, which prevented him from enjoying the consistent run he would have wanted. Even so, Arteta has continued to show faith in the defender and has made him part of his plans.

The Italian also played a role in Arsenal’s successful 2025-26 campaign, when the Gunners finally ended their long wait for another Premier League title. Although injuries between November 2025 and February 2026 disrupted Calafiori’s season, his return gave Arsenal another dependable option in defence.

More importantly, there appears to be little reason for Arsenal to actively consider selling him. The club has already invested heavily in Calafiori and continues to view him as an important part of their squad.

Arteta’s faith in the defender has remained strong, and Calafiori has responded by continuing to work his way back into the team whenever opportunities have arisen. His performances have also earned recognition from Arsenal, with the club naming him their Player of the Month for September 2026.

For now, then, a move away from the Emirates appears unlikely.

Real Madrid and Chelsea may be interested, but Arsenal hold the stronger position. Calafiori still has several years remaining on his contract, while the Gunners have reportedly placed a huge valuation on the Italian.

Unless one of his interested clubs is prepared to meet Arsenal’s demands, Calafiori looks set to remain in North London.

For Arsenal, the message is simple: they are not looking to part ways with Riccardo Calafiori anytime soon.
