Fans Can’t Stop Watching This GIF of Yassine Bounou’s Club World Cup Save to Deny Savinho

2025 Club World Cup, Al Hilal, Yassine Bounou

In a Club World Cup thriller packed with goals, drama, and the weight of reputations on the line, one unforgettable moment rose above all: Yassine Bounou (Bono), arms outstretched like a comic book superhero, denying Manchester City in spectacular fashion.

It was supposed to be Manchester City’s night at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The English giants, with their galaxy of stars and well-oiled machine, were tipped to steamroll Saudi giants Al Hilal. But someone forgot to hand the script to Bounou.

For much of his career, the Moroccan goalkeeper has built a reputation for rising to the moment. Whether it was the World Cup semi-final with Morocco or his title-winning campaigns with Sevilla, Bounou has always had a knack for delivering when it matters most.

Since joining Al Hilal in August 2023, Bounou has been a revelation in the Saudi Pro League—an experienced anchor in a team full of ambition. His agility and reflexes, once admired in La Liga, have translated seamlessly to the new stage. But against City, his talent reached a new crescendo.

As the game kicked off, City didn’t waste time asserting their dominance, and by the 9th minute, they were already 1-0 up via a Bernardo Silva goal and were threatening to run away with it.

Then came that save In the 24th minute.

City nearly doubled their advantage when Savinho darted into the box to the left side, timing his run perfectly. A low, driven shot looked destined to find the bottom corner. But Yassine Bounou had other ideas.

He launched himself to the right—arms extended, body grounded—and made the block using his left hand. The ball rebounded back to Savinho but Al Hilal had bodies in the area by then. Check out this glorious photo of his save –

In total, Bounou made 10 saves against City. Each one more vital than the last. But none resonated like the one that denied Savinho. It wasn’t just about athleticism—it was about courage, anticipation, and a keeper utterly in sync with the rhythm of the game.

The comparisons to his third-place finish in the 2023 Yashin Trophy weren’t just justified—they felt understated. Bounou isn’t just one of the best in the world; he’s the heartbeat of this Al Hilal side, the calm in the storm.
