In what seemed like a fever dream to fans, Messi poured his heart out in a letter to announce his retirement from international football
Fans couldn’t believe the news they came across, and so did Instagram it appears. The Meta-owned app started to glitch out right after Messi posted his retirement message, sending the servers of Instagram to a frenzy.
One glitch saw fans noticing their likes had stopped registering after a point due to the traction on the post.
Fans mentioned how their likes were not registering at all and had to tap the like button countless times for it to register.

Like his countless football moments which only Messi can do, bringing Instagram to a standstill also seems to be a part of his skillset.
Another glitch happened in the comment section.
Fan accounts and some of Messi’s teammates including Rodrigo De Paul posted their comments multiple times due to the assumption that their network was being slow, thus not allowing them to comment.
“Your unconditional love for our country, your internal battles to never give up, your strength to always endure injustices, your leadership and human warmth with every player who entered the training ground so they would feel comfortable, the thoughtful gestures toward every staff member of our national team… Just thank you, the greatest of all time, thank you for making us so, so happy, you have no idea how many smiles you brought out!! You are eternal 😢” wrote Rodrigo De Paul in his words to Messi.
Popular football account 433 dropped variations of ‘NOOOO’ on Messi’s IG replies section.
Even the official FIFA World Cup account dropped ‘Gracias, Leo’ multiple times.
Giuliano Simeone suffered the worst of it as it seems he might have posted this comment 20 times at least.
“ETERNAL thanks, Leo, for everything you did for the country 🩵🤍” mentioned Simeone in his comment to Messi.
Whether or not people’s likes and comments went through or not, the legacy of Messi has been set in stone, as the feats he achieved scream nothing short of “the greatest player in the history to live” and fans cannot be heartbroken enough to see him go.
