Even the World’s Worst National Team Can’t Resist Clowning Liverpool Right Now

Crystal Palace, Football Memes, Liverpool

Liverpool’s recent run of poor form, highlighted by a disheartening 3-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, has not only sparked concern among their supporters but has also unleashed a stream of online trolling from across the football world.

This desperate run includes four consecutive Premier League losses to Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Brentford, culminating in a humiliating 3-0 Carabao Cup exit at home against Crystal Palace once more. Sandwiched between these domestic nightmares was a lone victory in the UEFA Champions League against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The consecutive nature and opponents of these defeats losing to both high flying rivals and determined mid table sides underscore a deep, systemic drop in performance and confidence. The beginning of the season promised much for the club, who kicked off their campaign with a 7 game winning streak. However, that momentum has completely collapsed.

The team now finds itself in 7th place in the league table, a stunning drop that has fueled intense speculation and rumours regarding the potential sacking of head coach Arne Slot.

The club’s struggles have inadvertently created a social media phenomenon, with two unlikely culprits leading the charge, Crystal Palace and a nation renowned for its lack of footballing success.

Following their emphatic victory at Anfield, the official Crystal Palace X/Twitter account was quick to revel in the moment, delivering a pointed, though perhaps brief, swipe.

Taking a jab at Liverpool “Sarr will tear you apart again.” Sarr has been a kryptonite going all the way back to his Watford days back in 2020 scoring twice and ending Liverpool’s 18 game winning streak. In his last 4 matches against The Reds he has scored 5 goals.

Palace has now beaten Liverpool thrice this season already, in the community shield and in the league which coincidentally starter their downfall. Palace have known to be trollers, when they were on a unbeaten streak, their admin would tweet we have updated the bio reflecting their updated streak.

They also tweeted this out before the fixture, a picture of Guehi smiling with the caption “Taking on Liverpool, again.” For those unaware Guehi who is palace’s skipper was on his way to Liverpool on a deadline day transfer until the deal collapsed due to manager Oliver Glasner vetoing the move.

Perhaps the most surprising and effective trolling has come from the unofficial San Marino Futbol X/Twitter account.

San Marino, the tiny nation currently ranked bottom of FIFA’s global rankings (210th), has embraced a self deprecating yet brilliantly sharp online persona.

An example of their self depreciating humour comes from this tweet showcasing Liverpool’s current poor form making them look indistinguishable from San Marino, one of the lowest ranked national football teams in the world.

Capitalizing on Liverpool’s six defeats in seven games, the account posted a humorous, self aware meme that essentially juxtaposed Liverpool’s current run of losses with San Marino’s historically consistent run of well, not winning. San Marino tweeted saying “Hello, please play against us.”

The account has previously targeted other major clubs during their slumps like Bayern Munich and Manchester City, transforming the micro nation into an unlikely giant of football banter.

Moving onto Liverpool the relentless online mockery stems from a genuinely alarming decline in form for the reigning Premier League champions. Liverpool is currently enduring one of its worst periods in recent memory, registering six defeats in their last seven matches across all competitions, including four consecutive Premier League losses.

This crisis has deepened after the loss to Crystal Palace, leaving the team trailing the league leaders and facing a daunting run of fixtures against the likes of Aston Villa, Real Madrid, and Manchester City.
