Barcelona and it’s supporters are no strangers to injuries and setbacks as their hospital wing has now seen more players admitted due to injury than the team has points in the Champions League this season.
Midfielders Dani Olmo and Aitana Bonmati became the latest victims of the very same hospital wing, having suffered a shoulder and leg injury, respectively.
The Spanish midfielder has been a crucial part of Hansi Flick’s system, but is now set to miss almost 7 games, having already missed 6 games this season alone. Olmo made it 2-1 to the hosts during their match against Atletico Madrid before he awkwardly landed on his shoulder as he slotted the ball past Oblak.
His female counterpart and Barcelona Femeni’s primary creative fulcrum, Aitana Bonmati suffered a much worse fate as she underwent surgery after fracturing her leg during training with the national team, ahead of their second leg of Women’s Nations League final against Germany.
After the post-surgery pictures of the three time Ballon D’Or winner were released online, it sent an unforeseen tremble down the Barcelona fans’ spine, reminding them of all the times their teams’ season was thrown under the bus due to unlucky injuries.
The red and white walled room wards in the infamous Hospital De Barcelona has now become a piece of history for the Blaugranas, having become a haunting picture for the fans, every time it comes across their eyes on the internet.

Fans have even labelled the hospital wing as one of their worst nightmares as Barcelona supporters having traumatic memories associated with the same. Some even joked about having seen former winger and current Ballon D’Or winner Ousmane Dembele more than a few times in that same wing, given how the current PSG star was rather injury prone during his time with the Spanish giants.
The Frenchman’s tenure with the Spanish giants was heavily affected by injuries, having reportedly missed almost 120 games ever since he signed for them in 2017. Having suffered some sort of setback every season, he only made 185 appearances for the Blaugranas across all competitions. The main recurring issues were hamstring and thigh-related injuries. The same problems kept returning every season instead of being a one-time issue.
In recent years, despite suffering from many few slumps, the Culers turned the tide around under new manager Hansi Flick, completing the domestic treble in his first season as the head coach. They were unlucky to have succumbed to the would-be finalists of the Champions League, Inter Milan, losing 7-6 in the semi-finals in what was arguably the greatest semi-final tie in the history of the competition.
In that season alone, they had over 32 different injuries across their squad, despite which their achievement in that season was second only to PSG, who became the champions of Europe as they completed the Quadruple, something both Barcelona and Inter had their eyes on.
Injuries worsened and the performances degraded, that has been the story of the Blaugranas yet again ever since the 25/26 campaign commenced. The season hasn’t reached its halfway point yet and the current La Liga leaders already have had 23 different injuries with almost all of them being first team starters. The most notable injuries this season have been to star performers Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Pedro, Raphinha, and now Dani Olmo, all of them being the first few names on the teamsheet.

With an extensive injury list at hand, the fans will hope to not see the infamous hospital ward again, at least for some time. They next face a tricky side in Real Betis as they travel to Seville, and will surely hope to emerge victorious in their remaining Champions League group stage matches and the semi-final of the Supercopa de Espana.
