Having entered his punditry and content creator era, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has been very active outside the football pitch despite being sidelined by a Cruciate Ligament injury he suffered earlier in August.
The former Leicester City player has started a YouTube channel of his name and has already posted 4 lengthy videos of his daily life and behind the scenes content. His recent video, made public on December 13 which was titled, Reality of ACL Rehab in Pro Football, featured more of his recovery work in order to get back to playing football.
A moment, occurring in the 7th minute of the video, showcased Maddison asking fellow teammate Brennan Johnson for a motivational quote before heading to the treatment room for his recovery, to which the Europa League Final’s winning goal scorer after a brief pause, replied, “Never believe you’re good enough!”

At first glance, it might seem negative and potentially expressing self-doubt but instead it expresses quite the opposite, as it means to never be complacent and opposes the idea of being finished, content, comfortable and devoid of hunger.
This mindset says: stay hungry even and especially when you’re winning.
But the original source of inspiration behind the quote for Brennan Johnson was perhaps something which was a lot more funny than motivational.
As it turns out, the quote said by Johnson was a nod to fellow Welshman and content creator ‘Cal The Dragon’.
Callum Whitworth is a football content creator from Wales, mainly famous due to his appearance as YouTube All-Stars’ goalkeeper in the 2022 ‘Sidemen Charity Match’ held at Charlton Athletic’s stadium, which also featured former referee Mark Clattenburg as the main official.
Amassing over 2 million followers across all social media platforms, the creator of his ‘Gardens Premier League’ series on TikTok found himself getting a lot of stick for his content online. Suffering from autism, the Welsh content creator revealed he gained a lot of confidence from creating content online despite people’s mixed reactions.
“It inspires me to carry on going…Sometimes I’m speechless when I achieve something, especially something I thought was impossible.”
The clip of the Welsh international quoting Whitworth quickly went viral across social media with eagle-eyed fans across X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube quickly realising where the player got the quote from.
