Eberechi Eze spent six years in Arsenal’s youth system before the club released him at 13; then he progressed through the academies of Fulham, Reading, and Millwall.
The London-born midfielder began his senior football journey at Queens Park Rangers in 2016, and after four years at the club, he was snapped up by Crystal Palace in 2020.
At Selhurst Park, the England international made 169 appearances, contributing 68 goals in all competitions, and then Arsenal paid £67.5M, including add-ons, to sign him in 2025.
When he arrived at the Emirates Stadium, fans expected him to replicate the numbers he delivered at Crystal Palace and add more firepower to the Gunners’ attack.
However, Eze has yet to cement his place in the starting eleven under boss Mikel Arteta, who has played him at the left-wing position this season, though his natural position is attacking midfielder.
Currently, Arsenal only have one natural left-winger in the senior team in the shape of Christos Tzolis, but he is sidelined due to an injury, and Eze has been deployed in that position.
Now, according to TeamTalk, the Gunners are willing to part ways with Eze in the winter transfer window if a suitable replacement for him can be lined up.
It is believed that fans and the club are not satisfied with Eze’s performances this season on the left flank and in his natural number 10 position; Mikel Merino is preferred as the backup to Martin Odegaard.
Eberechi Eze will stay at Arsenal if he can improve his performances until December, and then the club will reassess all the options in the 2027 summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old has made 10 appearances in all competitions this campaign, contributing to three goals, despite being mostly used as an impact player coming off the bench.
Eze is widely accepted as a technically gifted player who is quick on his feet, creates chances for attackers, and possesses elite ball-carrying capabilities to turn defence into attack.
He can also play multiple positions, and he is calm and composed despite pressure from opposition players in the middle of the park, and he is a decent free-kick and penalty taker.
Arsenal wanted to sign a left-winger in the summer, especially after the departure of Gabriel Martinelli, who joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.
The Gunners were heavily linked with Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, but a move never materialised, and Eze was given the role to play on the left wing, though it is not his natural position.
Eze’s Arsenal contract runs until 2029, with an option to extend it for a further year, but with the club seemingly interested in moving on from him, he could become an option for several big European clubs.
It remains to be seen whether Eze can cement his place in Arteta’s plans or if the England international will make a move elsewhere in January.
