Liverpool linked with a move to sign ‘Spanish James Milner’

Liverpool are reportedly looking to strengthen their midfield options by signing Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid this summer.

Madrid based La Razon has linked the Spanish midfielder with a move to Merseyside for a reported sum of €40m.

Early speculation about the move has resulted in comparisons with their midfield man James Milner, most of which revolve around the Atletico man’s versatility and injury record.

Milner is reputedly known for his versatility, as the English midfielder has played in a number of positions as per requirement.

Milner has played in midfield, on the flanks and at full-back in his six years at the Merseyside outfit since moving on a free transfer from Manchester City back in 2015.

Apart from being one of the most multifaceted players the club has ever seen, Milner was also an ever-present figure – he barely missed any games and had one of the best injury records ever seen.

Saul offers a similar mould of versatility as he has played both as a #6 or a #8 – either on the left or the right of midfield despite primarily being a central midfielder.

According to Liverpool fans on Reddit, he is the right profile that the club were looking for – both for his adaptability as well as his scot-free injury record, having played 40+ games in all of the last six seasons.

The 26-year old will likely be in his prime for the next few seasons too, adding another one to the long list of reasons why Liverpool should be looking at him in order to reinforce their squad and reclaim the Premier League title.
