Unai Emery was sent off and Jorge Sampaoli had to be held back as Marseille v Villarreal turned ugly

Former PSG manager Unai Emery’s return to Marseille got seriously ugly as the Spaniard was shown a red card and almost came to blows with opposition manager Jorge Sampaoli.

The Villarreal boss received a hostile reception at the Velodrome as expected and seemingly lost the plot after Juan Foyth was handed his second yellow card during the pre-season ‘friendly’ defeat.

Emery could be heard screaming ‘Allez PSG’ (come on PSG) towards the Marseille supports and also called their manager to ‘come mierda’ (eat sh*t) during an ugly altercation on the sideline.

The Marseille boss, who is as hot-headed as they come, needed to be held back by his assistant before both the coaches came to literal blows.
