Newcastle United sit on the brink of fulfilling a dream spanning several decades, and at the heart of their endeavour is midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
The Magpies’ transition into an elite side has progressed splendidly, they currently sit at the 3rd spot on the league table, equal on points with 4th-placed Man United having played a game more. And most importantly, with a tight grip on the coveted Champions League qualification berth.
The dream appears to be within touching distance, and the Toon have their new owners to thank. Since the Saudi takeover, Newcastle made a string of smart transfers, including the aforementioned Bruno Guimaraes.
The midfielder arrived at St James’ Park last winter for a reported transfer fee worth £40 million.
Fans familiar with the Brazilian’s profile were confident of his success at Newcastle, and so far, the 25-year-old has gone far and beyond all expectations.
The Selecao star is a reliable and assured presence in the Magpies’ midfield, capable of producing incisive passes and decisive tackles in equal measure.
Guimaraes has also shown a willingness to gallop up front and chip in with goals and assists when required.
When paired with his authoritative influence on the side, Guimaraes becomes the complete package, and by extension, one of Newcastle’s most prized assets.
Firmly a fan favourite, the midfielder has maintained an excellent relationship with the Toon Army, something which can be said for the rest of the Magpies as well.
The players and fanbase seem more in sync than ever, and the harmony can be attributed to consistent and meaningful interactions with the fans.
A recent example of this came through a wholesome moment involving Guimaraes and a fellow member of the Toon Army.
The fan in question goes by the name of ‘Biffa Sutherland’ on Twitter. A tattoo artist by profession, the fan has been putting his talents towards etching some gorgeous pencil sketches for the entire Newcastle team, a truly wonderful initiative.
And as it turned out, Guimaraes has been taking notes of the fan’s work.
The midfielder came in touch with the fan and requested to receive his very own sketch, but that’s not at all.
As revealed by Sutherland in a Twitter post, the Brazilian personally met the artist to receive the sketch, a class gesture that made the fan’s day.
The entire interaction speaks volumes about the relationship between the Newcastle team and their fans. It also highlights that Bruno Guimaraes is a class act.
