Tuesday night football was a rather painful one for Liverpool, as not only did they lose to PSG on penalties in the Champions League Round of 16, but key players Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate were also forced off due to injuries.
Trent went down with an injury during the second half of the game, and his initial reaction did not look good. The right-back was clearly in pain, whereas Konate limped off late into extra time with PSG. “I have to ask but for me, Ibou was more that he was tired than it was an injury. With Trent, he had to come off. That’s never a good sign,” said Slot at his post-match press conference.
There is currently no confirmed return date for Trent’s injury, and further scans will provide more updates, meaning he will be unavailable for their upcoming EFL Cup final at Wembley. On the other hand, Konate’s name is expected to be on the team sheet, but Liverpool now has a gaping hole in the right-back position.
Conor Bradley himself is out with a thigh injury which he picked up in the 2-2 Premier League draw at Aston Villa on February 19. Slot had already confirmed that the Northern Irish player would not be available until April. Joe Gomez is also sidelined with a hamstring injury, and his return is not expected until May.
Tyler Morton, who was on loan at Hull City last season recently had surgery on his shoulder and is far from being fit to play. After the EFL Cup final, the squad will return to action in April, hosting their neighbors following the international break. Given their tight schedule, the two-week break will be beneficial for the players, and Slot is hoping for some key recoveries.
