Hibs Fans Might Have Just Invented The Catchiest Football Chant of 2025

Football Chants, Hibernian

Hibernian FC, the Edinburgh-based club, recently hosted Denmark’s FC Midtjylland in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League held at the MCH Arena in Herning, Denmark.

This fixture marked the club’s head coach, David Gray’s, first European tie in charge.

The game ended 1-1 to Midtjylland as Gray, in his first European game as a manager, managed a stalemate.

Jamie McGrath of Hibs scored early from a tight free kick in the 7th minute, deceiving the keeper Jonas Lössl.

Though the ball was initially saved, the goal was given after a thorough VAR check.

But, in the 72nd minute, Aral Simsir of Midtjylland curled in an equalizer from a set piece, finding the near corner to silence the away support.

Although the game ended 1-1, the Hibs away end was belting out one chant that has now got more attention than the match itself.

The moment McGrath’s goal put Hibs ahead sparked a catchy high tempo in the stands. Fans began singing:

“Hibs Away, Uh‑huh, Uh‑huh, I Like It!”

The fan chant “Hibs Away Uh‑huh, uh‑huh, I like it!” draws inspiration directly from the iconic chorus hook of the song “That’s the Way (I Like It)” by KC & the Sunshine Band, which was released in June 1975.

It became only the second song in history to top the Billboard Hot 100 twice (non-consecutively), in November and again in December 1975.

KC & the Sunshine Band was a band formed in 1973, in Miami, Florida, by Harry Wayne Casey (aka KC) and Richard Finch.

They were known for their horn-driven, upbeat disco-funk grooves and high-energy stage presence in their concerts.

The name “Sunshine Band” comes from their hometown, Florida’s nickname: The Sunshine State

This song famously includes the repeated “uh-huh, uh-huh, I like it” phrasing in the main chorus, which was designed to be instantly repeatable, making it a dance floor and radio favorite.

Hibs fans have creatively made this part into a chant, which was sung by around 1,000 travelling Hibs fans in the game against FC Midtjylland, and now it is already a contender for the chant of the year.

Fans across social media have poured in their admiration for the catchy chant.

One fan called it simply,

“It’s a fairly catchy one, all right.”

The chant’s bouncy rhythm and easy-to-join flow make it perfect for matchdays, especially on away trips where fan unity matters most.

Another fan joked,

“Get ready for 90% of the football league to copy it and try to pass it off as their own.”

Pointing to a long-standing football culture where popular chants quickly get adopted (and adapted) by other clubs.

When something this fun catches fire, it doesn’t take long before it’s echoing around other grounds.

Some fans saw the chant’s potential for longevity. One fan stated,

“This will catch on. One of those that can go on and on,”

Suggesting that the repetitive and energetic nature of the song makes it perfect for building momentum during a match.

Hibs fans have always been known to be the most passionate around the world. Over the years, they have had many iconic chants in addition to this new one.One of those iconic chants is the Sunshine on Leith chant. Read all about it here.
