Fans Can’t Decide If This Viral Portrait Shows Dwayne Johnson or Liverpool Boss Arne Slot

Arne Slot, Liverpool

Is there anything in the world that Arne Slot can’t do? Winning the Premier League on your debut season, making a usually stingy ownership shell out £400 million and break transfer records on world-class players, and taking over the reins of dominance from Pep Guardiola of all people. Also, building a successful “image” in the cut-throat Premier League, where every misstep is magnified into tragedies of Shakespearean proportions (just ask Ruben Amorim), Slot has somehow managed to evade the wrath of the British football media and emerged as a charismatic, well-spoken dude who is chill and affable in his interviews.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson needs absolutely no introduction, unless you have been living under a “rock” yourself. The WWE wrestler-turned-actor is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, renowned for his cheesy action flicks, which have grossed millions at the box office. One of the most recognizable faces on the planet, the ever-popular Rock has recently starred in The Smashing Machine, a biographical sports drama based on the life of MMA wrestler Mark Kerr, directed by Benny Safdie, one-half of the Safdie brothers.

As far as we know, there is no known relationship between Dwayne Johnson and Arne Slot, except that they are both at the pinnacle of their respective careers, enjoy a massive fan following, and are quite skilled in their jobs.

They don’t even remotely look alike, or do they?

A tweet by a user @_GIO15_ presents a starkly different answer to that question.

Unless the Rock suddenly started looking like a 46-year-old Dutchman who coaches a Merseyside-based football club that primarily wears a red jersey, the neatly done sketch surely reminds us of Arne Slot more than anyone else. The tongue-in-cheek caption has ensured that the Arne Slot sketch has gone viral on X, with users clearly noticing Arne Slot’s face in place of Dwayne Johnson.

The X community is having a field day with the sketch, with hilarious reactions ranging from Arne Slot GIFs to serious fans who can’t comprehend that the apparent “Rock” portrait doesn’t look like him at all.

One look at the poster’s account, however, reflects on him being a Liverpool fan, so perhaps the sketch was an interesting method to bait hapless users to provide engagement on what was actually an Arne Slot portrait. To be honest, the sketch is a brilliant one, and looks very accurate like Arne Slot, and not at all like Dwayne Johnson, unless they both switched places in a “Freaky Friday” type situation. A user tweeted, “Not sure if Arne Johnson or Dwayne Slot…”

There is not much room to analyse the portrait, other than the fact that it comically ensnared a good chunk of the Twitter userbase in debating on who the portrait actually looks like, with an overwhelming majority commenting Arne Slot’s name, while some accounts were visibly confused.

At the same time, however, it won’t be wrong to say that Arne Slot could very well be a major superstar akin to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson due to the massive impact he has had on Liverpool as a head coach. Coming into a position under massive scrutiny, to fill the shoes of the legendary Jurgen Klopp, Slot had his task cut out for him. We have seen tactically endowed managers with impeccable reputations fail to stand up to the hype after the managerial hot seat gets left vacant with the departure of a legendary figure. Everton boss David Moyes would be the best example, who came into the lucrative Manchester United position after Sir Alex Ferguson retired and was quickly shown the door seven months into his job, after failing to land the then-defending champions in a Champions League spot for the first time in two decades.

What Slot has done at Liverpool is no less of a superhero job, no matter how much rival club fans or media would like to beg to differ. Maybe Slot is similar to the Rock in that fashion: they are both bald, and they both manage to save the day despite everything going against them.

The A24 production, The Smashing Machine, releases on 3rd October, 2025.
