Content creators, especially in the footballing world, are the centre of entertainment in life outside the football pitch. Many football clubs collaborate with content creators to further broaden their audience.
The prime examples being Angry Ginge and The United Strand collaborating with Manchester United, Danny Aarons being featured with Tottenham Hotspur, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr having IShowSpeed hosting the full-time celebrations, the list goes on.
Very recently, after the fifth and final matchday of the Subway Women’s League Cup group stage concluded, the draw ceremony for the following Quarter-Finals stage commenced which would decide the future for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, along with Londoners Arsenal, Tottenham, Crystal Palace along with reigning champions Chelsea.
During the event, which took place on the official WSL Football TikTok account, influencer Grace Keeling, more prominently known as GK Barry amongst her 4 million followers, was tasked with the role of drawing the balls for the teams and was accompanied by her partner and Portsmouth FC midfielder Ella Rutherford.
What was supposed to be a regular draw ceremony turned the internet upside down after both Keeling and Rutherford said “What do we think of Tottenham?”, whilst drawing out the ball for Tottenham Hotspur’s draw.
This raised real questions about how professional and legitimate the draw actually was, which put the WSL (Women’s Super League) in the spotlight and has left fans furious.
"WHAT DO WE THINK OF TOTTENHAM?!"

The WSL have since apologised to Spurs but it has been stated the draw will not be re-done despite the ball… pic.twitter.com/Gf4vb0nReI
Absolute clown show, undoes all the good work that’s being done to promote the women’s game.

Disgraceful @BarclaysWSL … you are turning the WSL into a laughing stock … Using Tiktok influencers is beyond a joke … the Women’s game has worked hard to get where it is today, so show some respect to it’s players and especially it’s fan base!!!

Farce and the reason why women's football will always remain a complete and utter laughing stock. No-one can take all of this nonsense seriously…

To have the Women’s League Cup draw being done in this manner is nothing short of shameful as it undoes all the good work being done by everyone to promote Women’s football, especially in the UK. This marks yet another controversy for Women’s football, just days after the debacle of Sky Sports Halo, an official TikTok account made to cater female sports watchers. The account had to be shut down just two days after it’s launch after being marketed as the ‘Lil Sis of Sky Sports’, receiving heavy backlash from fans online since all they did was talk about ‘sports in matcha terms’.
