Cristian Romero Speaking English Has Spurs Fans More Excited Than His Bicycle Kick

Cristian Romero, Tottenham Hotspur

Cristian Romero arrived just in time at the St. James’ Park to save Tottenham Hotspur from the jaws of defeat with a breathtaking bicycle kick goal to equalize in the last minute.

His brace extracted one crucial point away from home with a 2-2 draw against Newcastle which the latter would be much disappointed for.

But Romero brought in added excitement to the Spurs fans, not by the bicycle kick but turning out for a rare Sky Sports post match interview and probably the first time in English.

Tottenham came into the game at the back of two consecutive losses, winless In their last 4 games and Newcastle took advantage of it by dominating the game from the start and took the lead in the 71st minute of the game.

But Spurs captain Romero spoiled their party by helping himself two goals in which was a “Messi-inspired” bicycle kick equalizer.

Post the game, Kevin Danso accompanied Romero for the interview for Sky Sports which created a surprise among the Spurs fanbase since they haven’t been used to see their “Cuti” in an interview especially in English.

When asked to speak about his first goal, Romero said “ This was very important for me and the team. For the last 3-4 games we were not good enough but I loved the mentality today. The way we played today together, I loved the mentality in such a difficult situation.”

Also when asked how he felt about his second goal which was nothing but out of the world he heaped praise for his Argentine teammate Lionel Messi – “We used to see Lionel Messi do this every day in the national team, so it was beautiful to score like that”, he said.

Fans were genuinely entertained by the way Romero presented himself to the Interview making jokes on how visibly frustrated and uninterested he was in doing the interviews.

In a tough stretch of games for Tottenham and a rather underwhelming first half of the season under their new manager Thomas Frank, Cristian Romero steps up as a true leader  by providing reasons to celebrate on and off the pitch.
