Bayern Munich, Jonah Kusi-Asare

17-year-old Jonah Kusi-Asare stepped onto the Allianz Arena pitch, replacing Harry Kane in Bayern Munich’s clash against Mainz 05. The moment marked his Bundesliga debut, a dream come true for the young forward and a sign of his bright future. Here’s everything we know about Jonah, from his roots to his skills.

Jonah comes from Solna, Sweden, where he was born on July 4, 2007. His father, Jones Kusi-Asare, was a pro footballer who played in Sweden, Austria, and Denmark while Jonah’s mother is Finnish. Thus he possesses the unique chance to represent three different countries at the international level: Sweden, Ghana, and Finland.

Jonah’s football journey kicked off at IF Brommapojkarna’s youth team in Sweden from 2021 to 2022. He then moved to AIK Solna in January 2023 becoming their youngest-ever player. Jonah made his debut in the Allsvenskan, the top tier of Swedish football, six months later at just 16 years, 1 month, and 24 days old. He played four times in Sweden’s top league that season.

Bayern Munich signed him on February 1, 2024, for €4.5 million, a big move that showed their faith in him. “It feels unreal. I’m so happy to be at the biggest club in the world. It’s a special day,” Jonah said when he joined Bayern in February 2024.

He started with their U19 team, scoring three goals and getting one assist in six games. This earned him a spot with Bayern Munich II in the Regionalliga Bayern, the fourth tier, where he debuted on August 30, 2024, in a 1-1 draw against DJK Vilzing. He also played seven times in the UEFA Youth League.

Jonah got his first taste of senior action in a friendly against Red Bull Salzburg in January this year, coming on in a 6-0 win, before his big Bundesliga debut against Mainz yesterday.

According to SalarySport, Jonah earns about £55 per week, which comes to roughly £2860 a year. His contract with Bayern Munich runs until June 30, 2026, covering Bayern Munich II and the U19 team.

Jonah Is 6 feet 4 inches tall and plays as a centre-forward, wearing the number 41 shirt for Bayern Munich’s first team. His former U17 coach at AIK, George Mousally, has high praise for him: “He’s amazing. He’s good at everything: strong, technical, can score out of nowhere, great in the air. He can do what he wants. He has a bright future.

In EA Sports FC 25, Jonah has a rating of 60 overall with a potential of 83, marking him as a promising talent. His stats break down like this: pace at 61, shooting at 58, passing at 40, dribbling at 59, defense at 25, and physical at 65. His financial value in the game is €775,000, with a weekly wage of €7,000.

Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, spoke about Jonah’s growth after his debut: “Jonah is doing really well in training and is getting better. He’s been with the team for a while, and I’m happy he got his first Bundesliga minutes.

With Jonah’s quick rise, some wonder if a loan move in summer 2025 would help him get more game time. Bayern’s response is, “We’ll see. He’ll go to the Club World Cup first.” The FIFA Club World Cup in June-July 2025 will give Jonah a chance to face top teams, helping him grow.

A loan could make sense, as Bayern’s squad is packed with stars like Harry Kane, Leroy Sané, and Serge Gnabry, all of whom compete for attacking spots. Clubs like Club Brugge and PSV showed interest before Bayern signed him, so he’d likely have options. For now, Bayern wants to keep him close, training with the first team and playing for Bayern II.

Jonah’s mix of size, strength, and skill makes him stand out. He’s right-footed but can use both feet and dominates in the air. “I’m big and strong, I play in the middle, and I love to score. I’m good in the air and can shoot with both feet,” Jonah said about his playing style.

Bayern’s success with young players like Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala suggests Jonah could follow in their footsteps, though he’ll need patience to break through. His 2025 looks exciting, with the Club World Cup and a possible loan move on the horizon. Fans are eager to see what this young star does next.
