Jeremie Frimpong Injury Update: Return Date Confirmed and Matches He Will Miss for Liverpool

Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool

Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong has established himself as one of the world’s best defenders, and probably one of the top 5 best right backs in the world, over the past two years thanks to his appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, with whom he won the Bundesliga unbeaten in the 2023/2024 season. His work for the team, his explosive pace, his defensive and offensive contributions, and his dribbling skills have led English giants Liverpool FC to sign him in 2025. Of course, thanks to his appearances with Bayer Leverkusen, Frimpong was also called up to the Netherlands national team.

On May 30, he joined Liverpool FC for €35 million and made his debut on August 10 in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace; they lost on penalties. Frimpong scored his first goal as a Liverpool player in that same match in the 21st minute.

During this match, Frimpong was undoubtedly one of the best players and many Liverpool fans were excited to see him in action in the Premier League. But it seems that Liverpool will have to wait a little longer to enjoy Frimpong a little more, since it seems that he has just been injured and will not return until after the international break in September of this year.

And even Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, has confirmed that Frimpong will not return until after September due to a hamstring injury. We can read that in the following tweet.

Frimpong is expected to miss the away game against Newcastle on August 25 and the home game against Arsenal on August 31. Well, this isn’t the first time the Dutch right back has been injured.

Frimpong has had a not-so-recurring relationship with injuries because during his time as a Celtic FC player, he was out for four days; as a Bayer Leverkusen player, he was out for 53 days due to a syndesmotic ligament tear in the 2021/2022 season; and then in the 2023/2024 season, he was out for eight days due to an unspecified injury.

The good news is that not many fans are worried, as it’s easy to see that the Premier League is more physically intense than the Bundesliga, so it’s normal for a newcomer to get injured as this physical approach could take a toll on new players who arrive to the league.

There are also those who believe that this break will make him come back refreshed and stronger, which makes sense when considering that his injury is not that serious.

His injury will most likely see Joe Gomez or Conor Bradley replace him while he returns, so Liverpool won’t have any problems, and if either of them are unavailable during this time, it’s likely that Wataru Endo or Curtis Jones will step up and play at right-back for the estimated time.
