Daniel Levy Steps Down After 25 Years at Tottenham: Fans React With Joy and Shock

Daniel Levy, Tottenham Hotspur

A decent number of Tottenham Hotspur fans will be celebrating today and will always remember September 4, 2025 very fondly. After years of protests, online trolling and singing various chants, the fans have at last got what they always wanted – the removal of minority club owner Daniel Levy as the Chairman after 25 years of service.

Daniel Levy will no longer have a say in any of the things that Tottenham Hotspur does, despite retaining minority ownership. The north London club confirmed the development yesterday with a post on social media along with a press release on their official website.

While many believe that it was a decision made unanimously by the board, Tottenham confirmed that Daniel Levy himself decided to step down as the club’s Executive Chairman. The development has certainly shocked the entire footballing world, and the news has come at a very uncanny time. But that’s exactly how Spurs do it.

Many believed that his reign as the Chairman will continue, especially after Tottenham Hotspur won their maiden European trophy last season. In May 2025, Ange Postecoglou helped the North Londoners win the Europa league after beating Manchester United 2-1 in Bilbao.

It was only the club’s second major silverware under Daniel Levy’s chairmanship with the first one being the League cup which they won way back in 2008. However, Levy caught everyone by surprise and sacked Postecoglou 16 days after that historic night in Spain.

Spurs then hired Brentford’s Thomas Frank, and he became the 14th permanent manager under Levy. That says a lot about the unpredictability of club. Levy’s 25-year tenure will be remembered for the major infrastructural development and success off the field, but will always be marred by the lack of it on the field.

Among the 63-year-old’s biggest achievement is the 1 billion pound magnificent stadium and the outstanding training headquarters at Hotspur way in Enfield. Daniel Levy is such a prolific businessman that he leaves the club after making them “the most profitable club” in EPL history. All thanks to the revenue generation from their stadium, lower wage structure and of course their transfer spending strategy.

“We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level. More than that, we have built a community. I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years.” – Daniel Levy addressed in a press release.

Under his chairmanship, Spurs played 16 semi-finals and 7 finals but ended up with only 2 trophies and that’s why the club supporters are overjoyed with his resignation.

Tottenham fans say goodbye to Daniel Levy

Ever since this news broke out last night, social media erupted with reactions from thousands of Tottenham fans across the world, and we have churned out some of the best positive and negative reactions.

Below the announcement post shared by Tottenham Hotspur on X, fans had their unique way of saying goodbye to Daniel Levy.

One fan commented that the campaign ran by Tottenham fans has actually worked. “The #LevyOut campaign worked?! Tottenham fans won.”

“At last, that bald man departs. Now let rebuild.”

“Can’t lie, this changes everything transfers, management, even stadium direction. Big news.” “The most difficult man to deal with in football. End of an era.”

“WHATTTT WE’RE FREEEEEE.”

Among the sea of negative reactions, there were a few positives as well.

“Thank you for everything you’ve done for this club. While it hasn’t always been plain sailing, I can’t deny the work that has been done to transform the club off the field, including the new stadium, training ground, and the incredible commercial success achieved.”

“Thank you Daniel. While not a popular take, you were a good servant to the club. Where at almost every game. You left the club healthier and forever changed for the better.” “Daniel Levy was a good Chairman.” “Tottenham are finished He was the only good thing about the club.”

“People hate to admit it but he’s been amazing for this club. Unlucky to not win more of the finals we’ve had, but we’ve been competing at the top for many years with a fraction of the resources of our peers.”

“I hope you give him the befitting farewell he deserves. This man right here oversaw the most successful era In Tottenham’s history. He leaves a legend.”

“On behalf of Spurs fans, we are sorry to read this news. Daniel Levy has guided Tottenham Hotspur from directionless midtable-dwellers to a super club on the world stage and deserves immeasurable credit. I think many may unfortunately learn that the grass is not always greener.”

“Levy is very good at managing business, but lost his way when success is not just measured financially in football.”

So, with Daniel Levy leaving Spurs, this will be a new beginning for the club as they will look to build on the success they had last season. With Daniel Levy, their best-ever finish in the league was 2nd. Where will they end up this time around?
