Viral Video Shows Antoine Semenyo Shopping at Lidl Despite Earning £75K a Week Salary

Antoine Semenyo

The 2025/26 Premier League season has, so far, been a proof to Antoine Semenyo’s rising talent and his major importance for Bournemouth. Having firmly solidified his spot as a powerful and influential attacker, Semenyo has lit up pitches around the country with a blend of raw pace, clever positioning and a clinical eye for goal. Entering his prime at 25, his efforts this campaign have elevated him from a promising talent to a necessary asset ultimately solidifying his stature to make that “big club” move very soon. For FPL loyals and fanatics, he is also currently the highest point-getter for midfielders in FPL with 73 points.

His 2025/26 season began with a bang, by netting a brace against Liverpool on the opening Premier League weekend, demonstrating the predatory instincts that have become his signature. He currently has 6 goals and 3 assists in 9 Premier League appearances so far for Bournemouth. The Ghanaian was linked to a move to the west side of London and to the red side of Manchester, to Tottenham and Manchester United respectively, in the 2025 summer transfer window. The two clubs even went as far as putting in a £50m bid over the summer, only to get rejected by Bournemouth.

All of this later became a bit soft when, Semenyo, was handed over a 5 year contract from Bournemouth on which he happily put pen to paper and signed the contract extension keeping him at the club until 2030.

Yet, despite the soaring success on the pitch and the lucrative contracts that accompany such a profile, a recent social media revelation offered a refreshing look into the Ghanaian international’s wonderfully grounded nature, prompting much discussion and admiration among fans. A popular tweet from an account recently showed Semenyo shopping inside a Lidl shop with his rumoured girlfriend, Jordeen Buckley, who initially posted the video on her TikTok page (@jordeenb). The video clip showed Semenyo casually carrying multiple bottles of water, some balanced on his head in a playful manner, billing the products purchased, preparing the food, etc all while navigating the aisles in a comfortable tracksuit.

For many, the image of a footballer making an estimated £75,000 per week, yet choosing to purchase items at a supermarket like Lidl, was a striking statement. Lidl, alongside Aldi, is recognised for offering products at reasonable rates. The usual visitors of the store are people from middle-class backgrounds, ideally. Semenyo’s presence there, far from being a publicity stunt, looked to be an accurate reflection of his grounded personality.

The statement “UK is a leveller” properly captured the mentality. It illustrates that despite the extravagant income being made by top-tier athletes, the social structure of Britain normally encourages a certain realistic outlook and modesty. It suggests that while the rich may choose luxury, many even amongst the rich, nevertheless, favour unsophistication and normalcy, opting to engage in everyday activities that transcend economic differences. Semenyo’s honest choice resonated well, showing him not just as an athletic hero, but as an approachable, relatable guy who hasn’t let celebrity and money disconnect him from normal life.
