Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool’s number 8 and scorer of long-range golazos and incredible free kicks, is also an ardent hater. Earlier this year, we saw his hating exploits as he went back and forth with Arda Guler for months.
His newest rivalry involves AZ Alkmaar’s Troy Parrott. The Hungarian captain and the Republic of Ireland’s Parrott got into it at last month’s International Break, and while they went their separate ways after the match, Szoboszlai is still taking shots and hating from afar.
Dominik Szoboszlai had an international break to forget as he and Hungary were tormented by Ireland’s Troy Parrott in the most agonizing way possible.
Parrott, on the other hand, had arguably the best week possible for any footballer. Within one week, he showed up and showed out against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal with 2 goals, and then repeated his exploits against Hungary a few days later, owning Szoboszlai.
The stage was set for Szoboszlai and Hungary to seal their qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a win or a draw, but Parrott and Ireland had other ideas.
Earlier in the match, Szoboszlai was seen taunting the crowd and making crying gestures towards the fans. All hope was lost as Hungary took the lead two times, but Parrott’s dramatic hat-trick, with the winner coming in the 6th minute of injury time, sealed Hungary’s fate and sent Ireland to the World Cup playoffs.
Szoboszlai cut a disconsolate figure after his side threw away the match in such a dramatic fashion. The manner of defeat and his previous antics made him a target for mockery. Not to mention the fact that he was in tears after the match only added to the joy of Irish fans.
Over the days that followed, Irish fans, media, and fans of other teams mocked the Liverpool ace for the turn of events.
While Szoboszlai went silent for a few days, it seems like he hasn’t forgotten, as he came back at Parrott in the pettiest of ways.
Parrott, who was playing for Dutch side AZ against Twente, fluffed his lines from the penalty spot, skying the ball high and wide in the 9th minute of injury time.
The cheeky Panenka backfired, but things were only about to get worse. Eagle-eyed fans noticed a familiar rival was waiting with bated breath, and he made his move when Sky Sports posted a graphic about the Irish forward’s embarrassing miss.
Szoboszlai was quick to like the post, fueling speculation that the Hungarian captain was still bitter about the loss and holding a grudge.

Considering the humiliating exit on the biggest stage and the way in which Parrott got the cheeky Panenka spectacularly wrong, it is understandable why the Liverpool midfielder would enjoy this mishap.
However, given the way Parrott completely owned Szoboszlai, he would have been better off enjoying this moment in private instead of making it publicly visible.
Moreover, this incident also gave Irish fans ammunition to target the 25-year-old for his social media activity and call him out on letting Parrott live in his head “rent-free”.
Dominik Szoboszlai has liked Sky Sports’ Instagram post about Troy Parrott missing his penalty at the weekend…Rattled.
than he is still crying? bro is gonna be sitting at home watching the world cup qualifiers
Bro is still salty lmfao
Some fans were enjoying the hating, although they were few and far between.
He hate watches arda guler and Troy parrott
Tears Svolazi real hater
This is my next captain. I’ve legit never seen this level of pettiness before. I need that.
Despite Szoboszlai’s hating and Parrott’s miss for AZ, Ireland and Parrott are still alive in the World Cup, while the former has been eliminated.
Parrott will now have another opportunity to reach new heights and turn himself into an Irish legend as Ireland takes on the Czech Republic in the semi-finals of the Playoffs, and the winner will face either Denmark or North Macedonia in the Final for a spot in the group stage.
