Ruben Amorim has still not found a smooth rhythm as the manager of Manchester United with just 23 wins in 57 games in charge across 390 days.
That reduces to 13 wins in 41 games in the Premier League. With the pressure of expectations to overhaul the team and bring in the past glory already aching his back, Ruben had to encounter a press conference where his accountability had to be questioned.
After the game against West Ham, a visibly frustrated Amorim had much things to brutally accept at the press conference. The injury situation of Leny Yoro, the underwhelming performance at home, AFCON players absence and most importantly the future off Kobbie Mainoo.
When several questions had been about the strength of the squad and the left alone players yet to play out of which Kobbie Mainoo was a part of, Amorim had to say
“I see, I see it and I just want to win,” Amorim answered.
“I try to put the players. I don’t look who it is. I don’t care about that. I’m just trying to put the best players on the pitch. You have Ugarte that played two games. One of them, Casa (Casemiro), was out. Bruno is always fit. He’s the guy that is doing his position, so maybe it has to do with that”.
When asked whether the absence of Amad and Mbeumo during AFCON would open up the options for Mainoo, “I dont know guys, It’s the same question. I don’t know what is going to happen. It depends. I see the training, I see it’s the best thing for the team, I will put it. That is the only way I know how to respond to that.” he responded.
Such uncertain responses could not be entertained by the journalist Carl Anka, who questioned Amorim’s accountability to be responsible of the performances of the team rather than a “I don’t know” reply. This led to a tensed exchange from Amorim for a while during the press conference.
