Tottenham Ready to Cash In on Brennan Johnson Just Months After His Biggest Goal

Brennan Johnson, Tottenham Hotspur

Ever since his £47.5 million move from Nottingham Forest to Tottenham Hotspur, Brennan Johnson became an integral part of the Lilywhites’ offensive line. In his two years of being a Spurs player, so far the number 22 has scored 21 goals and provided 19 assists in 81 appearances across all competitions.

The most important goal of his career, and arguably one of the most notable in Spurs’ history, came in the UEFA Europa League Final against Manchester United earlier this year. The Welshman was the hero for the North Londoners in claiming their first European major trophy in the modern era.

In the post match interview after the Europa League final, the Welsh international was asked about his thoughts on scoring the match winner,

“I’ve no idea what happened, but the ball went in the back of the net, so I couldn’t care less!”

“It means everything, honestly. Ever since I joined the club I just thought this club is way too good not to have won a trophy for so long, and to be part of the team that’s won a major competition, it feels unbelievable.”

I still can’t process this (looking around the stadium). My family is here and it’s a privilege to be with everyone. That’s who we all do it for, as well as the fans. We sat down halfway through the season, and everyone told their stories and you got a little glimpse of what everyone’s been through and it’s not easy. We’re football players, we’re privileged, we have an unbelievable job, but some guys in this team have been through things that I wouldn’t wish on anyone so, so proud of every single player and I love them all.”

While it was a fairytale ending for the Welsh Lilywhite in the 24/25 season, his current campaign has seen the opposite side of the coin, having only managed to score 4 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions.

With summer signing Mohammed Kudus as Thomas Frank’s primary option on the right-flank this season, rumours have emerged of a potential move away from N17 with London rivals Crystal Palace eyeing up an opportunity to bolster their attacking threat through Johnson.

Users on X reacted to the reports with many keen on their club selling the player,

@_Tommy_Pickles Just get the money for what we paid and we are f***ing laughing

@Cap1sav We would be very lucky to get anything above £20m. Other than popping up with the odd goal, he adds nothing to the team when he plays. In fact we are playing with 10 men. He’s only good for the last 10 mins, when you’re losing a game and trying to score a tap in at the back post

@NickTriani If an average player like MGW is going for 60M+ – then BJ is 70M. Goals and assists over the last season and a half = big money. It can’t just be Spurs paying silly money for players, right? You know he goes somewhere else and does it big and the fans will love him.

@cheesybeanmelt £45m I’d rather do it in summer tho. Strengthening a rival in winter is daft and self destructive.

@DaveBall65 A lot to us our biggest goal scorer .and ( like a lot of players) if we get rid of him he will do the same if not better for another team

@AndrewR81 Elanga went for circa £53m and he isn’t too far off Johnson. Therefore holding out for circa £50-55m is very realistic, especially in January

@sonnysonaldo Let him go honestly he’s very good but will never be better than Kudus

@devlin434 My opinion sell but we want Wharton in Return as part of deal this would be great ambition from club and secure a top player in cm 30 mil for Johnson and 60 for Wharton 90 mil all in

@ConsultsWho Get rid. Love BJ as a person but as a football player he does not meet the expectations of the club.

@junicoae_ For us it’s always a great idea to sell, but most of the time the club would just… not replace the player at all. And then everyone gets injured, “we could’ve used him”, same old same old

@Adryahh Move him on. We appreciate the UEL but he’s not the one to take us to the next level, need much better

@owenthfc__ The manager clearly doesn’t seem to rate him despite their previous Brentford interest so it makes sense to cash in while stock is still high. Sitting on the bench is only gonna devalue him & the last 5 years this club has been terrible at selling. This would be the right time to sell

@Folan_Follows I think we could get a profit for him. He’s worth 55m he’s come to spurs and on the face of it better himself as a player. Our style of play never suited him. He would do well for palace

Another potential destination for the Welsh winger could see him end up on the South Coast of the country, playing for AFC Bournemouth. With major clubs in a battle for landing star winger Antoine Semenyo’s signature, the Welshman can prove to be an ideal replacement for the Cherries.

@mackyd78 If he leaves, I see him moving to Bournemouth as a replacement for Semenyo, they need to replace his goal output and Johnson, in the right setup will provide that

@heitfejw Palace won’t drop their club record fee on Brennan Johnson. I think it would be a great move for him but don’t think it’ll happen to Palace. Bournemouth sounds like a much better fit to help with goal output if Semenyo leaves.

With a drought of minutes across the Premier League and the Champions League, a transfer for the Welshman seems imminent. However, Spurs’ stance on selling the winger, as of now remains to be seen. Where do you think he’ll end up in the next transfer window? Let us know in the comments down below.
