Monday Night Football did not disappoint on the field in the Premier League. Manchester United and Bournemouth put a hard battle for a 4-4 draw at the Theatre of Dreams.
But off the field, the Sky Sports’s MNF show was a snoozefest upon the arrival of former French striker Olivier Giroud. He set a classic example that not all good players can be good pundits.
Olivier Giroud, still in the highest level of European football, plays as a no. 9 for LOSC Lille in Ligue 1.
At 39, many seem to retire but he has not, embodying longevity and fitness at the top level.
On Monday, he was invited to be a special guest in Sky Sports’s “Monday Night Football” alongside Jamie Carragher as an analyst.
Oliver Giroud was involved in multiple discussions for the entire duration of the show.
He spoke about why Chelsea, still need more time to compete for the title and not the favourites yet. Talking about Maresca’s post-game transfer demands and club situation, he said –
“He needs a player who is consistent. One who can score goals every single week. He has got talents in the room but he still needs some experience. The squad is relatively young and maybe that’s why he demands one or two players, maybe one centre back and a proper number nine.”
"I've been really impressed by this team… they need some time to compete for the title race"

He also added how Arsenal used to collapse under pressure and how he personally was a part of during the title race in 2016. He emphasised how Arsenal need to maintain the rhythm until mid-March to seal the title without any hiccups.
“Usually we used to feel nervous around the time in February and March and I remember in 2016 when Leicester won the title, we collapsed a bit that time. So if Arsenal can maintain the rhythm and the race with Man City until middle of March then maybe they can end their long wait “
He insisted that Gyokores, if provided more time, can succeed at Arsenal as the discussion about the Gunners’ attacking options raised –
“I like Gyokores. He is strong and can turn and finish. He has every quality a striker requires at the top level. He just needs more game time and confidence. As a number Nine, I want Gyokores to succeed.”
Giroud also made a “Teammates XI” with the players he had played in his career. He selected 4 each from Chelsea and France Football team while assigning the GK duties to his French captain Lloris and a unique pick of his former Arsenal teammate Santi Cazorla.

The Snoozefest part of the show was about how slow and boring Giroud sounded throughout the show.
Viewers could barely focus on watching as Giroud kept speaking in what is jokingly said, a speed of 0.5x.
Too much time to speak his opinion, usage of the same words, Giroud was not what a good pundit would be. Fans asserted studios not to choose pundits based on looks and football legacy.
Good job they start MNF at 6:30pm, takes Oliver Giroud an hour to finish a sentence. @SkySports pic.twitter.com/Sl3TwLk09p

@Shawn_Chare
Sky Sports really tortured us by giving us Giroud
@jonmufc44
Olivier Giroud and Jamie Carragher on MNF.
One guy painfully struggling to speak English and Olivier Giroud
@Coozy933
After an 8 goal thriller I think the last person you want on MNF is Olivier Giroud😴🤣
@Ed_Acteson
Witnessing the excitement of that game followed by Olivier Giroud’s punditry must be the sort of crash that only heroin addicts usually experience.
@mhoney1234
No one will talk about the horrendous MNF coverage with Giroud barely putting an English sentence together because it’s not TNT Sports. Dreadful coverage from Sky Sports. Hard watch.
@Azeezkol
Never seen someone talk so slow as Giroud does, Carra definitely tired of him.
Giroud ain’t getting no screen time again on MNF
@Tribal_Chef
Giroud sounds like the least enthusiastic and most boring person of all time, don’t invite him on again.
@MUFCJay2
Oliver Giroud on MNF just ain’t it.
They need to get guests who add something to the show with technical insights.
@bealolufc
Whose idea was it to get Giroud on MNF as a guest? Might be the most boring person alive. Handsome bastard though.
