Ruben Dias Reveals First Tattoos With Hidden Russian and Chinese Meanings

Footballers' Tattoos, Manchester City, Ruben Dias

Ruben Dias, Manchester City’s tall centre back, has been enjoying life lately. The Portuguese defender has been instrumental in keeping his team in the race for the title as Man city are 2nd in the table just 2 points below Arsenal. He even scored a 24-yard screamer more recently in their game against Sunderland.

Ruben Dias has maintained a clean figure throughout his career so far.

But in a new addition to his athletic body, Dias has now etched couple of tattoos for the first time. Footballers inking tattoo is not a new thing but something unique with Dias’s tattoo has caught people’s attention

On 16th December, he uploaded a photo on his Instagram account, probably from his gym session. It revealed the new tattoos Ruben Dias had inscribed on his arm and back.

The tattoo on his left arm read as “Стойкий мужик” and was identified to be Russian which literally means “a Steadfast man”.

The gothic styled tattoo represented Dias’s personal choice of uniqueness. In Russian, it translates to the word “stoikiy muzhik”.

The word is seen as a reference to a man who is steady, strong and firm in his convictions even in times of adversity.

Dias might have tried to resemble the inner meaning as a defender who needs to be strong and resilient.

The other tattoo on his upper back was of Chinese descendant. It is a hieroglyph named “dao”, originating from Chinese philosophy.

It means the path or direction, guiding one’s life and pursuing inner peace and wisdom.

As a tattoo, it can represent the individual’s expression of personal belief, spiritual pursuit or life reflection.

Ruben Dias had gotten inked at Vvieira Tattoos, an artist based in Moscavide, a city in Dias’s home country, Portugal. Several reactions surfaced on the internet on the footballer’s unique tattoo design.

His City teammate, Erling Haaland, jokingly commented on his post “Esta fixe?” tagging Josko gvardiol. His comment in Spanish translates to “Is this fixed?”.

But fans were genuinely surprised of the choice of tattoo. Here are some of the reactions –
