Aston Villa are one to watch out for this season. They are just three points behind the league leaders Arsenal and are on a record winning streak in the history of the club, winning 11 straight games across competition. Their last winless game was against defending champions Liverpool on 1st of November.
Aston Villa started the season poor, winless in their first 5 games, but soon picked up the pace. They now have secured 12 wins in the league. One of the crucial players for the surge has been Amadou Onana. The Belgian has helped in controlling the midfield without any compromise, which allows Tielemans and Morgan Rogers to move up to contribute in the attacking third.
In their last game against Chelsea on Saturday, Onana was one of the players in the strategical three men substitution in the 59th minute by Unai Emery. His presence meant that Tielemans could push forward, also allowing Rogers to move into the right, higher up the pitch, where he could dribble past or move into the central zone. This paid off massively as Rogers assisted Watkins for the equalizing goal from Villa.
Since his move in the summer of 2024, Onana had been a very good team player too. Watkins who has been inconsistent this season, was accompained by Onana in his trademark three cheers move.
But beyond that, there is one other ritual that has made Onana a fan favourite. The midfielder has a habit of recording a video where he shows three fingers and puts it into the pockets of the jackets, indicating that three points are secured and pocketed, after every win.
This had become a routine that it made people wait for his video after every win.
He first did the gesture after their win against Fulham last season.
Gotta love this man, 3 points in the pocket!

Played well when he came on, improving all the time. Will be a big player for us next season#avfc #onana pic.twitter.com/5e7bLKOmD5
And then after the 2-1 win against Man United on 21st December.

And then tweaked it a little by putting the three fingers inside the pocket of Boubacar Kamara’s jacket after win over Chelsea.
