Terry Yorath (75), the former Welsh Footballer and Manager, passed away earlier this week after a bout with illness.
Yorath was a talented midfielder who played for the likes of Coventry City, Tottenham, and Leeds United, even winning the Football League First Division in 1973-74 during the peak days of Leeds.
He was also the father of Gabby Logan, the Welsh TV host best known for presenting live sports events on the BBC and co-hosting Sports Personality of the Year awards, which she has been doing since 2012.

The entire football world was in mourning, but Richard Keys, the controversial English sports presenter, took this as an opportunity to talk about Terry’s daughter and fellow TV presenter Gabby Logan, in a misogynistic tweet.
Gabby, who is the current presenter of BBC Match of the Day, alongside Kelly Cates and Mark Chapman, got her start in Sky Sports back in 1996, and Keys made sure to mention how she got that gig.
Keys wrote how Terry was a warrior and a reason why he [Keys] gave Gabby a job at Sky Sports, adding that he had no idea about Gabby but only gave her a job because of her father.
Sad to hear the news of Terry Yorath’s passing. He was a warrior & won fans over wherever he played. He was great for us at Coventry & the reason I got Gabby a job at Sky. I had no idea who she was when we met but I knew her dad. RIP Terry. Your daughter did you proud.

Richard Keys has long had a history of being sexist and misogynistic, going as far back as 2011 when he got hauled off air after leaked recordings came out.
The recordings exposed the discussion between Sky commentators Richard Keys and Andy Gray where the duo criticized the presence of women in the Premier League, even implying that women don’t know the offside rule.
Despite getting punished, Keys has continued his ways, constantly letting his mouth get him in trouble and letting his inner misogyny and sexism come out, even to this day.
While he tried to backtrack His statement on Gabby, stating that his words were misconstrued and that he was only implying that Terry’s daughter made him proud, he only made it worse by unintentionally doubling down on his take that Gabby is only here due to her family ties and not on her own talent.
What a shame my words for a footballing hero of mine were entirely misinterpreted. Terry Yorath was a fabulous guy. A warrior. My affection for him meant I was more than happy to help him & his family in any way I could. Gabby’s career would make any father proud. RIP Terry.

Gabby Logan is an outstanding broadcaster and one of the best in the business. She would have been in this position with or without her family ties.
Moreover, looking at the track record of Richard Keys, it would be tough to give him the benefit of the doubt. Not only has he not made any attempts to own up to his past mistakes and change himself, but he also referred to his misogynistic comments as “just banter” years down the line.
Either way, women already have it hard in a male-dominated space, so Keys needs to be extra careful in his words. Women like Laura Woods and Gabby Logan are breaking the ceiling and giving hope to millions of women who aspire to one day be a part of the football world. The current BeIN broadcaster should be promoting and uplifting women in this field instead of bringing them down.
What do you make of Richard Keys’ misogynistic tweet? Do you think it was misconstrued, or was he trying to bring down a fellow TV presenter? Let us know in the comments section.
