Felix Starck, the CEO and Co founder of Baller League has put up a ridiculous opinion, that might have only drawn the expected attention lately. While whether or not his claims are true, there is an increased sense of awareness over the Baller League.
Before coming to know what he said, the idea of Baller league was not new in UK. Inspired from the Kings league, pioneered by the Spanish footballer Gerard pique, Baller league first originated in Germany under German football influence of Mats Hummels and Lucas Podolski. It is a six per side football tournament, started in 2024. The league is a mini, fantasy version of the beautiful game of Football, with audience focused entertainment and cheeky rules.
Following the success of Baller league-season 1 in Germany, the owners decided to expand it to the UK market. Several former players and British influencers were brought in as managers for the 12 teams in the league. Notable figures like John Terry, Micah Richards, Daniel Sturridge, Ian Wright, Alan shearer and Luis Figo are managers of 26ers , Deportrio, Trebol FC and Wembley Rangers AFC respectively.

The league’s broadcasting rights were bought by Sky Sports network for national broadcast and with entertainment a priority for the league runners, international viewers were provided the chance to witness every matchday in the Youtube channel of Baller League.
The league started on 24th march and finished on 12th June with the SDS FC crowned as the inaugral champions. The second season of UK Baller league started early in the same year on October 27th, and had a matchday every Monday. On Sunday, Wembley Rangers FC became first time champions by beating the defending champions SDS FC with a score line of 4-3.
On the day of the finale, League Founder Felix Starck had an interview with BBC Sport, where he claimed that between the age group of 16-28, the Baller league has outnumbered the premier league in viewership. He said
“Between 16-28, We are more watched than the Premier League in Live games. We need to listen and educate the fans, that this is a new sport and we want to take them with us on our journey. we are the second most watched sport league in the country and in the age group we care about, we are the most watched. Still, we can do better every day, and that’s why the traditional football is in the state it is right now in. People do not care much about anymore, in making the league, the sport and the fan experience better, but just want to fill their pockets.“

Ballers League CEO and Co-Founder Felix Starck believes his league is up there with the Premier League… pic.twitter.com/Ah0TsxtwCm
His opinion although, has put fans in confusion, as some of them do not believe, he is true about the popularity of the league. Many consider that Baller League is not a good way of the sport’s promotion and is just an entertainment oriented version of football. Some even understood, that he is taking into consideration of the free Youtube streams that the league provided on its own.
Surely this is utter bollocks? https://t.co/aC1rDyyzXo

Fans started questioning the integrity of his statistics and how a reputated journalism organization like BBC could share it without any baseline evidence.
Quite a claim. How can @BBCSport @BBCMOTD put this out without checking, challenging or questioning it? 🤷🏻♂️ https://t.co/AXIw6YQjSw

People leveraged the Grok AI tool on X, to verify the numbers, but the results however were not any accurate. It stated that Baller League has had an increase in the overall viewership than Premier League, but no specific data was available to ensure it for the age group comparison of 16-28.

Further, fans stated that, since Baller League is free to watch and available across platforms, the viewership is easily boosted. Premier League on the other hand, needs a Sky Sports subscription and is majorly followed in pirated websites.
People getting caught up counting numbers and are missing the bigger picture. Baller League is free to consume and is therefore very appealing to a large audience. The Premier League on the other hand are struggling more and more with piracy. Is it not obvious? https://t.co/TVo52frkKU

The Baller League rather than a step forward is just a casual, time passage showcase of football. There is very little evidence or conviction to whether it could overtake or replace the original format, which has long withstood and would continue to impress fans.
