The details for the ultimate football match are set. A date with destiny now awaits Spain and Argentina. The two former champions will meet each other in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on 19 July at the New York New Jersey Stadium in Rutherford, aiming to add another star to their crest.

It is the first time that the World Cup final will be contested by two reigning continental champions. Argentina lifted their 16th Copa America title in 2024, just hours after Spain had won the Euros for a third time in their history.

However, a serial winners’ pedigree is not the only thing tying the two teams together. Both the World Cup finalists are also sponsored by Adidas, ensuring the to-be crowned champions will lift the trophy with the iconic three stripes on the front.

In fact, Spain in 2010 ushered a golden generation for the German sportswear brand, becoming the first Adidas team to win the World Cup in 20 years. Since then, France in 2018 is the only team that did not sport the Adidas logo enroute to triumph. Argentina furthered the trend in the previous edition in Qatar to take Adidas’ total World Cup haul to seven.

Such is the hype around the brand at this point that the online world is doing the marketing for them.

With Lionel Messi and Yamine Lamal their two major brand ambassadors, it seems Adidas has been preparing for this very moment ever since the latter burst onto the global stage.

Check out how Twitter is reacting to Adidas’ massive moment in the World Cup –

“Adidas graphic designers working overtime right now”, a fan wrote on X.

“what an opportunity for Adidas.. They will surely milk it very hard”, echoed another.

“It was inevitable, the best 2 right now and bound to be met. UEFA robbed us of this mega clash. But the football gods gave us this ULTIMATE CLASH. THE INFINITY will face the FUTURE. We all know what is gonna happen”, came a third response.

All in all, as many as 23 of the 52 squad members part of the final across the two teams are Adidas athletes. On the Argentine side, the defensive core of keeper Emiliano Martinez and starting center backs Cristian Romero alongside Lisandro Martinez all wear the three stripes. In front of them, other starters representing the sportswear brand include Alexis McAllister, Rodrigo de Paul, Julian Alvarez, and of course Messi.

There are four Argentine Adidas athletes on the bench too, namely the prodigious Nico Paz, veterans Exequiel Palacios and Giovani lo Celso, as well as Atletico Madrid’s Thiago Almada.

The contingent for Spain is even bigger with 12 names to boast, headlined by Yamal. Much like their upcoming opponents, the defensive duo of Aymeric Laporte and Pau Cubarsi have Adidas deals, as does the midfield heart of Pedri, Fabián Ruiz, and Dani Olmo. Amongst the reserves, Celta Vigo striker Borja Iglesias, Barcelona’s Eric García, Liverpool man Víctor Muñoz, Atletico’s Alejandro Grimaldo, and Premier League champions with Arsenal Martín Zubimendi alongside super-sub Mikel Merino make up the rest of the representatives.

Regardless of how the final ends in Rutherford, Adidas can be guaranteed they’ll go home as the winners from the biggest World Cup of all time till date.
