Liverpool’s strong start to the season has stalled after two back-to-back defeats. Recent disappointments against Arsenal and Fenerbahce have highlighted areas that may require reinforcement, particularly in defence.
One area that has further come under increasing scrutiny is the left-back position. Milos Kerkez was brought in as the long-term successor to Andrew Robertson, but his performances have occasionally been inconsistent despite showing encouraging signs of his potential. Second–choice left back Kostas Tsimikas is in his last year of contract at Liverpool and is expected to leave in the summer.
Such circumstances have pushed Andoni Iraola and Liverpool’s recruitment team to explore the market for a new left-back.
Liverpool have already been assessing several left-back options, but their interest in one particular target intensified following the 3-2 Champions League defeat to Fenerbahce. While Liverpool defence failed to hold the lead twice against the Turkish giants, the visiting side was impressed with the opponent’s left-back, Archie Brown.
According to the latest report from TeamTalk, Liverpool are closely monitoring the English left-back and have accelerated their interest after the player’s match-winning performance at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.
Brown played a decisive role in Fenerbahce’s comeback, scoring the equaliser before creating the winning goal with a well-timed assist for Vedat Muriqi. His performance certainly caught the eye of Liverpool’s recruitment team, who are actively looking to add depth in the left-back position.
The 24-year-old Birmingham-born kicked off his career at West Brom and Derby County academies before joining Lausanne-Sport in 2021 and Genk in 2023. He later joined Fenerbahce in the summer of 2025, and since then has developed into one of the consistent performers for the Turkish giants.
Archie Brown’s latest performance against Liverpool highlighted his ability to handle a high-pressure Champions League game. Earlier this season, he scored against Roma to give his team a good start in the continental tournament. His steady rise continues to build his stature as one of the hot prospects on the market and attract interest from the top European clubs.
Another report from Sabah claims that Fenerbahce demanded a fee in the region of £17 million for Brown when Manchester United approached in the last summer, but considering the growing interest, that price is likely to skyrocket in the near future. The same report also adds that the English player is considering a return to his homeland at some point in the future, which could give Liverpool an edge if they make a formal offer for the player.
