In recent years, Rio Ngumoha has been one of the most touted acquisitions for Liverpool FC. The Merseyside club landed the player at Anfield from Chelsea for £2.8 million, along with other add-ons. Since then, the 18-year-old has become a crucial part of the Premier League club’s setup.
Although Ngumoha isn’t a direct starter for the club so far, he has already shown glimpses of his potential. He has been given numerous opportunities in the first team after his transition from the club’s youth ranks. In the 2026-27 season alone, Ngumoha has featured in 13 games so far, recording 2 assists.
Those stats largely don’t reflect his skill set, though, as he is a far better player than that. Ngumoha’s minutes in the club haven’t been spectacular, as he has played just over 600 minutes this season and largely plays behind Bradley Barcola and Cody Gakpo as a rotational player on the left wing.
However, his importance to the club as a prospect cannot be undermined by any means, especially after his increased usage this season under manager Andoni Iraola. Amidst this, the player has sparked interest among some of the big names of Europe. Bild Sport journalist Christian Falk reports that Bayern Munich is taking a keen interest in the player.
Notably, the German club is also exploring the possibility of signing Ngumoha in the summer transfer window. Bayern had already explored the opportunity to land Ngumoha last summer and were reportedly ready to pay £58.5M (70M Euros) and had also spoken about the deal with the 18-year-old’s brother, James, who also acts as Rio’s agent, close confidant, and personal trainer.
The Merseyside club didn’t express its interest in the deal, and Munich eventually dropped the chance of signing the player. Bayern eventually went ahead and landed Ismael Saibari from PSV for £42.5 million, but they are still monitoring Rio Ngumoha’s situation with Liverpool and also maintain close contact with the player’s entourage and family.
While Bayern Munich already have a touted former Liverpool star like Luis Diaz on the left wing, Ngumoha’s ceiling as a player would definitely raise eyebrows at the German club. Ngumoha wouldn’t just be a mere rotational player for Munich but would be a great investment for the future.
Even at the age of 18, Ngumoha has shown exemplary class with ball control, elite dribbling, and beating defenders in 1v1 situations. In his time with Liverpool, Ngumoha has shown a tendency to cut inside and score with his stronger foot.
