Leeds United extended their winning run to four consecutive matches on Saturday afternoon with a hard-fought victory over Queens Park Rangers (QPR) at Elland Road.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Marcelo Bielsa’s men however as Nahki Wells scored against the run of play to give Steve McClaren’s side the lead after 26 minutes.
But Leeds kept going and in-form Kemar Roofe scored from close range moments before the half-time whistle to send the teams into the break on level terms.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, something not seen around Elland Road for a long time took place as the home team’s 14 month long wait for a penalty finally ended when referee Peter Bankes pointed to the spot for a handball against Toni Leistner.
After some deliberations with Pablo Hernandez, Roofe stepped up to take the much awaited penalty and slotted away the spot kick to nab his second of the afternoon to take the Peacocks into the lead.
After not witnessing their team win a penalty for 59 games straight, the home crowd was sure to make a ruckus when they finally got the decision in their favor and boy they did just that.
Mixed emotions were running through the crowd at Elland Road as they experienced both joy and surprise at being given the decision after such a long time and came up with a brilliant x-rated chant to remind everyone of just how long it has been since they got to witness a penalty for their team.
Brilliantly sarcastic! Check out the chant after the 02.10 mark in this lovely vlog from the game below :
Ever since Arsenal acquired him from Serie A side Sampdoria at the start of the season, the North London club’s supporters have been quite smitten with Lucas Torreira.
The Gunners have craved for an influential defensive midfielder in the mould of club legend Patrick Vieira, who left in 2005, and the dogged 22-year-old certainly seems to be filling the void with some really combative displays so far this season.
Along with his ball-winning abilities and clever passes to keep the game ticking in the middle of the park, Torreira showed he can chip in with goals too when he scored his first in the Premier League during the all-important North London derby win against Tottenham last weekend.
That strike would have only endeared him further to fans, who’ve been busy singing his praises on social media at every opportunity.
In fact, the Gooners have been so delighted with Torreira’s acquisition, that it appears they’ve been constantly thanking his former club on their official Twitter account; and their craze has now prompted the Italian side to put up a tweet requesting them to stop with the constant thank you messages on their posts!
The legend of Lucas Torreira just keeps on growing.
Check out Sampdoria’s tweet after Torreira scored for Arsenal during their 1-0 win against Huddersfield Town yesterday:
Despite Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen starting on the bench, Tottenham picked up a comfortable 2-0 victory over Leicester City, thanks to goals from Son Heung-min and Dele Alli.
Looking to reclaim third spot from Chelsea, who had earlier defeated champions Manchester City, Spurs took a little while to settle in and struggled to find any clear chances.
But just when it looked like the first-half was condemned to finish scoreless, Son popped up with a brilliant shot into the top corner in stoppage time to calm nerves.
With the Foxes struggling to do much going forward without the injured Jamie Vardy, Alli’s strike after the interval all but ensured there was no way back for the hosts.
The 22-year-old had steadily grown into the game and finally got his reward when he scored a diving header just before the hour mark, with his Korean teammate providing the assist.
While the midfielder’s 50th goal for the North London club would have delighted fans, his brilliant touch to control a high ball in the opposition box is another moment that might interest the Spurs faithful.
Check out this piece of wizardry by the Englishman:
Leeds United continued their winning run and recorded their second victory on the trot by besting Reading 1-0 on Tuesday.
The win saw the Peacocks climb to second in the table and Marcelo Bielsa will surely be rallying his troops to get back to the summit of the Championship as quickly as possible.
Back-to-back wins at Elland Road has definitely got the supporters chirping again and a glance at this epic photo of the ground under the lights should only add to the already high excitement levels amongst the fans.
The stadium looks surreal with the floodlights on and is definitely a sight to behold.

Former NBA star Steve Nash, who’s a huge Tottenham fan, referred to rivals Arsenal as scum on live TV ahead of the Premier League season’s first North London derby to be played at the Emirates on Sunday.
The 44-year-old’s comments came during a post match program after Spurs managed to keep themselves in contention for Champions League knockout stages with a 1-0 win over Inter Milan last night.
The passion these derby matches arouse amongst both sets of fans—who absolutely hate each other—can be evidenced by the fact that even celebrities can’t help but take shots.
The upcoming clash is once again expected to be a heated affair with lots of banter expected between the supporters.
For starters, check out a clip of Nash’s slur aimed at the Gunners:
The Brazilian certainly seems to enjoy the backing of manager Maurizio Sarri, who’s started him in all 12 league matches this season, but a few Stamford Bridge faithful are yet to be convinced and are clamoring for the 30-year-old to be dropped.
In a bid to put his point across, one Twitter user put up some stats that show Willian lagging far behind in terms of career goal contribution in Europe’s top five leagues.
In fact, the Blues star comes in last in the list of players and if these stats are anything close to being true, they just can’t be ignored. Check them out for yourself:
Tottenham’s Erik Lamela, Paulo Gazzaniga and Juan Foyth were involved in a photoshoot for the Argentina squad ahead of their upcoming match against Mexico on Saturday.
The trio was spotted posing with their arms folded across the chest, with the 26-year-old Lamela rocking a couple of bandages on his forehead and looking like some hardman who’s just arrived from a bar fight.
The attacking midfielder, who has been in brilliant form for Spurs this season, suffered a horrific head injury during the North London club’s victory over Crystal Palace last weekend.
On his way to becoming a real cult hero in the eyes of Tottenham fans if he goes on like this.
Check out this picture of the Argentinian looking like a certified killer:
Like his teammates on the night, Erik Lamela tried his hardest but was ultimately left frustrated after Tottenham’s narrow 1-0 loss to defending champions Manchester City on a Wembley pitch that was shorn of grass in quite a lot of areas.
Having watched his team fall behind in the 6th minute, the midfielder had a gilt-edged chance to equalize late in the second half and snatch a point for his team but the Argentine could only manage to sky the ball over the bar.
While Spurs fans will be disappointed with the missed opportunity, they would have at least enjoyed the 26-year-old antics while taking a free-kick.
With manager Mauricio Pochettino in the background urging Lamela to take the kick quickly, the Argentine found his way blocked by Raheem Sterling.
So what did he do? Shot the ball straight at Sterling, who unfortunately took the blow near his groin area.
